Just shy of 12 years as a member of the National Guard and Army Reserves back in Wisconsin.

6 years as a medic, 1970 to 1976
Learned how to erect GP large tents in the field, tear them down and set them up again.

1-1/2 years, OH-58 mech., Aviation Co., 1981 to 1982
Good Army training, earned my wings (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif)

1/2 year as a tank commander, Amor unit, 1982 to 1983
Transfered from choppers to tanks, what the F... was I thinking? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

1/2 year batt. photographer, Engineering Batt., 1983
Cushy job in HQ until I hurt my leg during annual training. Spent 3 months on crutches and lost my slot.

3-1/2 years AeroScout, flying the left seat in an OH-58 scout helicopter, Attack Helicopter Batt., 1984 to 1987
The ultimate gig. Getting paid to fly and I was able to get some
actually stick time. There is nothing finer than flying at tree top level at 90 knots with the doors off. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/clap56.gif)

DrifterJay,

I salute you. Stay safe (IMG:style_emoticons/default/flag.gif)

USS Engage
Commander's Staff, Mine Flotilla 1

Months of 8 on/8 off. I got to see Haiphong Harbor in January 73 after Kissinger signed the peace treaty.
I hated every minute of it. The only good thing was the college education benefits that I got after I got out.

US Coast Guard from 1994-2000
Avionics Technition second class/Flight Mechanic aboard HH-65 Dolphin helicopters (think Baywatch). Stationed at San Francisco International Airport.
4 near crashes, on lost engine in a hover, only one to cut the cable with a swimmer on it saving the whole crew.
1 1/2 years aboard the USCGC Munro, patrolled the pacific waters from Equador to the Bering sea in the search of drugs, environmental offenders, and persons in distress. One of the few coasties to go on a WesPac to the litter box in 1999. Saw much of the Middle East and Asia.
Hanging out of a Helo saving people is a hard job to beat.
