Hello all,
Finally was able to register my account so I thought I would introduce myself. My name is Geoffrey & my recent acquisition of a 74 1.8 914 would be the reason for joining the group. I got an awesome deal on my not too rusty little gem, paid a thousand bucks. she's completely stock but for wheels (empi eight spokes) stereo, electronic ignition & an addco type front swaybar. thus far I have brought all the maintenance up to date with a valve adjustment, plugs, filters... I also was getting some noise out of the wheel brgs so I replaced them all. I also replaced the dry rotted pizza cutter tires with new 195/60/15's & dropped the front ride height to get rid of the nose in the air look. next up is saving the car. I.E. fixing the rust. In this regard I feel I got pretty lucky. small amounts of surface rust here and there with the worst of it being spots under the rocker panels at the jacking points, under the passenger side headlamp & at the lower firewall on the drivers side. right now she's what I call a rolling resto. I'm currently d/d her while I finish the restafication of my 91 Galant VR4. One the Galant is finished, hopefully in the next six months or so, the teener will go under the knife. right now I'm leaning towards the wrx swap but having a good friend working in a local VW shop I may let him talk me into a 2056 build... jury is still out. About me; I have been a car guy/mechanic for about 25 years. I have restored & modified more cars than I can count for myself, my friends & my customers. I look forward to being an active member of the 914 community & look forward to meeting some of you guys & seeing your projects first hand. I live in Fallbrook, located in north San Diego county CA. so if you happen to see my little white, for now, Beater, feel free to say hello. so far I have only seen a couple others on the road. one really nice guy with a nice orange 2.0 & another white one running around Escondido with a trunk rack. Peace, Geoffrey. "Joffrey" |

Jersey style welcomes to the club! A tidbit of advice if I may, this group loves pictures so post them as often as possible. Might as well start with a few shots of the 74' outside the doors! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

Will get you all some pics soon as the camera finishes charging. Unfortunately all the pics I had of her when I brought her home got stolen, along with my camera, when my truck got broken into.
In other words it looks a lot less like it came up from the titanic at this point compared to when I pulled it out of the field. I'm off now to pull the back pad & see if I can fix the engine cover release & int light. I'm also curious as to how much rust I'll find opposing what's on the engine side of the firewall. for the moment budget only allows for treating, stopping the spread of rust, not actual repairs. I don't want it getting any worse in the mean time. Thanks for the welcomes (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/welcome.png) It is always a pleasure to see another nut.... er.... enthusiast join the madness. I am envious that you are able to DD your car before you start to really dig into it. I was able to drive my car up the street once the tow truck dropped it and into my garage for a total of maybe 100 feet (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) .

Fallbrock was one of my favorite driving destinations when I lived in Poway for several years. Best of luck with your new project. You are gonna love it! Tom |
