I dragged the '76 2.0 out of the garage the other day as my 15 year old has suddenly become a historian on Porsche 914s (he found my book "Excellence was Expected"). The topic of what car he wants has come up pretty regularly.
I'm not chopping up my '76 as it is still dead stock and complete but we've been looking through the ads for a father son project in another 914. Repowering has come up in conversation also. I found this Dodge 2.5L Minivan engine for sale near Seattle for $400. We are not quite ready to start into a project, but I thought I'd share it to other 914 guys. This engine swap could be fun as these turbo 4's are legendary for their durability and abiliity to stand up to stuipid boost. Good luck.. http://seattle.craigslist.org/kit/ptd/3668354416.html |

Was that 2.2 turbo posted here? $400 for a complete engine/CPU/Turbo and manifolds is not a bad start, even if they are all core. If I'm lucky, this week we'll close on a house on 3 acres with a ridiculously big barn with upstairs office (3200 square feet). Been a dream of a lifetime and I'm already planning on how to fill it up with car and boat crap! |

Interesting Doc., I'll probably be sending you two transaxles in the next year for rebuild. One for my '76 stocker and one for whatever my son and I settle upon for his first car. I'm still nervous though about cutting a 16 year old loose with a car that most suburbans can't see and wouldn't shrug after running over..... |

Heads up, those turbo vans can rise up and SMITE the unwary. Take a look, quarter mile against a Z28:
Minivan vs. Z28 And Youtube is littered with those videos. . |

or look for the 2.4 HO turbo used in the neon SRT-4 and some gt pt cruisers. our 06' gt has the 2.4 HO and the car is faster than most would presume. very drivable motors.

There used to be one of those minivan's that would show up to Sac Raceway every once in a while...fun to watch a couple times.
