You got mine vote as well. If I pick up this 914 project you'll probably be hearing from me about some of those rear fenders (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) This pic was taken in my brother's back yard in Johnson City, TN. I stopped there on the way between the Road Atlanta and Summit Point Nationals in April 2005. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

From pictures in this and the other thread, it's fascinating to see how the Tangerine has evolved.
All worthy cars here, but, we've got your back, Chris: (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i142.photobucket.com-1239-1363951398.1.jpg) |

Chris,
Where does the giant aluminum HVAC fresh air tube get its air from then? I was looking through all the checkered flag pics and I couldn't figure it out. I know the latest modification using the headlight buckets ducts air into an oil cooler, but I didn't know about the fresh air for the engine. |

Sorry to say it but all this "vote for me, vote for me"! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bs.gif) has kind of cheapened the COTM personality contest for me. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif)

Having been mostly a cruiser and car show guy up until recently (now into AX), I admire the spunk and determination of the guy who uses his car to the utmost. I have absolutely no problem with a guy showing pictures and asking for votes. To me, that's what it's all about. |

Chris, Where does the giant aluminum HVAC fresh air tube get its air from then? I was looking through all the checkered flag pics and I couldn't figure it out. I know the latest modification using the headlight buckets ducts air into an oil cooler, but I didn't know about the fresh air for the engine. After the 2005 season I decided the Nationally competetive engine needed more fresh air to keep it cool. Since the front end had been damaged at the Runoffs anyway, it was time for an upgrade. Every time I crash the car, I rebuild it better than before. So after a couple years of thinking about it, in 2008 I made lots of changes to the car, with a goal of improving the cooling, aerodynamics, braking and handling all at the same time. The oil cooler air ducting was completey revised. The brake cooling ductwork was revised. A new C/F nose was installed. A 935 front suspension was installed with a bigger anti-sway bar. I replaced the right front corner of the chassis too since it was somewhat wrinkled. Engine duct mockup: Completed installation: My primary engine has two oil pumps so there are two oil coolers inside this shroud. Primary brake duct inlet: Secondary brake duct inlet: The primary brake duct goes to the center of the rotor. The secondary duct dumps fresh air at the caliper. Chassis repair: New nose: and in the first race out I f'ed up the thousand dollar bumper/airdam (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) |

Elliot, I thought my thread was in good taste and appropriate, and except for that guy who overreacted, the response has been mostly positive. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) The hardcore racers may not pay much attention to the COTM threads and in fact it was just a fluke that I even found out my car was nominated. I rarely vote in COTM threads. From the beginning, it was pretty obvious that Eric's car would be the front runner. In fact someone started a thread suggesting his car should be COTM without any voting at all. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bs.gif) Being the underdog against some pretty nice street cars I felt that drawing in some "outsiders" was the best hope for a decent result. |

Chris, Did someone actually overreact on 914 World? I never knew that could actually happen here (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stirthepot.gif) I just don't believe it. Nope.. not here. Its a free world and its all about likes, taste and style. Some people like restored cars and calipers, others like a good purpose built battle ax. I like your race car. I like Erics car but they are different cars. Different tools if I might say so. Sometimes being the underdog is cool, just sit back and watch it all unfold. What was that quote from the Gumball Rally? Franco: And now my friend, the first-a rule of Italian driving. [Franco rips off his rear-view mirror and throws it out of the car] Franco: Whats-a behind me is not important. How about a race car of the month poll? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/first.gif) Then we can separate the race cars from the road going ones. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving-girl.gif) |

I did start a thread asking if I'd missed the COTM post and after hanging out with Eric and an awesome ride in his GT I offered a First for the vote. I didn't state that it should receive COTM without a vote as it's up to the World to decide!!!
I love what Chris does and accomplishes with his 914. Great video and obviously some great driving in crazy conditions (IMG:style_emoticons/default/pray.gif) Some day I'd love to have a track dedicated 914. At the same time Eric has accomplished recreating what these car's were when raced and enjoying it to the fullest. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif) Good Luck to everyone... |

Chris,
After you made the changes in '08 that you explain above, did you see a reduction in lap times? |

ETC. Heck we can even have a catagory for MOST POPULAR GUY WITH AN UGLY 914:rolleyes: (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) I hate seeing Eric & Chris in the same race. Tom |
