my maps are kind of unclear. where does Hwy 126 cut off from 5? pre grapevine? half way trough? leaving 5 from the stockton/sacramento area to get to 101 will add a bit more time than i want to add.

kevin

126 is south of the Grapevine. So you would climb over the mountains and descend into the valley before the junction.

After more people lay out their tentative routes/time, I think we should plan on locations and time ranges along I5 and 101 so we can meet up or take a break along the routes. I'm thinking Bakersfield San Louis Obispo, Pasa Robles, Grapevine, or...

The "real" Pacific North West group may want to decide on an Oregon and Way Northern California town.

Hey Felix, as you know, I am planning on attending the event but I have no way of transporting my car. I don't even own a truck to pull a rented trailer.

I may need to hire/rent a single or multicar trailer and a tow vehicle to transport the car down south? This gets complicated really quickly when you consider that we will be bouncing around from local to local over several days. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wacko.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wacko.gif)
Looks like I'll be scrambling over the coming months trying to orchestrate this trip.

Any ideas?

chris, perhaps someone else has a truck you could borrow for the trip? trailers can be rented (i supposed trucks can too, but that gets $$$ with the mileage)...

i'd offer mine, but i'd prefer to tow my car. as the date approaches and if you're really desperate, however, i'd consider driving my 914 down with my stuff in the truck bed -- you could be in the truck pulling your car (you'll still have rent a trailer or dolly or rig up a flat-tow system).

My wife has dropped out of wanting to go, so now I will either need to hitch a ride or fly down. Still only have one good car right now... Even if I find the time to put ugmo back on the street, I don't think I want to drive her THAT far!

Hey thanks Nathan (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/beerchug.gif)

It’s still early so anything can happen?? I really would like to buy a trailer (fer cheap) and then it’s just a matter of finding/renting a truck.

IMHO, 101 will be a lot faster, and shorter route. Plus I think there are more towns you pass thru in case you need parts or something. Brian's parents live just outside of camarillo in Newbury Park. We've always taken 101 as opposed to I5. I think the 5 would be better for going into LA itself, but if you're along the coast, 101 is the best bet.

YMMV,

Jen

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/agree.gif) It is just as fast in my opinion and MUCH more scenic, also MO"S BBQ in SLO for lunch....excellent!

Chris,
If I get Harry's old 357 in my car I may be up for driving but I'd prefer to trailer for long trips. Why won't your's be road ready?

I'm getting a car trailered up to Seattle so maybe we can arrange a group rate on a 10 car semi truck. Better yet rent one for the event. We have some time...

If ya wanna stop just south of San Luis Obispo, we have a Mo's here in the 5 cities (Avila/Shell/Pismo/Grover Beaches/Arroyo Grande). Plus I have lots of parts for those unexpected breaks. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif)

I definately want to be an early-bird so I don't miss anything (I had to skip last year), but I'll wait for the caravan.

I'm still hoping to have 2 914's ready, so may need a second driver. I'm hoping to have the Black Car sorted, and try & sell it to some unsuspecting suc.....er, um, someone looking for a runnig teener. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif)

I'm in for the caravan. I'll go wherever. I plan on driving the 914, but I may tow if I get scared. I'm insanely nervous now because it's still not running 100% and I only have a few months. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wacko.gif)

I'm also in for the caaravan. I think it would be a good idea to develop a list of cell phone numbers for those caravaning. I expect to be able to be in SJ between 9 and 9:30, if I miss the take off I'd like to be able to call ahead for road conditions etc.

Cell phones in cars create inattentive drivers, just use hand signals. All you will need is the "Emergency Contact List" in your glove box (european) or glove compartment (american).

Out of SF.....5 is fast....101 is scenic and adds a lot of time.
