I am collecting cell phone numbers for those meeting in Gilroy on Friday to caravan down 101 to Camarillo. I will print a list for each car so folks can contact each other while in route. Code word will be "HELP". Send to jimchambers41@hotmail.com

Unless you have dual gas tanks, some people towing may need to stop for gas in King City which is mid-way between Gilroy and Santa Maria. (Chris will be driving a 454cid truck towing a flat bed trailer and 383cid car.) Anyone else need to stop more frequently?

Ah, King City. California's other armpit (the first being Los Banos).

Paso Robles has cheap gas, usually. It's the 46 exit towards Hearst Castle.

They used to call Salinas (where I grew up) one of California's armpits. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif) We had the "farm" smell too...

CA has a lot of armpits. Bakersfield was always the one I heard referred to as the armpit.

Porsch Rescue stated in a post further back that the crew should be able to make Gilroy by 9:30 if leaving Stockton around 7:30. Not sure of your Route, but if you plan on coming west on 580 the 580/680 interchange at Pleasanton/Dublin gets really backed up in the morning. Not sure how far east that backup goes, nor how late in the morning it lasts. Any other east bay folks care to add their thoughts? You all might want to leave earlier than 7:30. Also, south bound 680 (to 101) has HOV lanes starting around Fremont. Solo drivers will need to blend in with the crowd, the rest of you can motor along. Just some thoughts for you all. drive safe and see you soon.

Thanks Matt, but we will go south on I-5 for 60 miles or so and then west on 152 for 40 miles. Should miss the morning rush. I have been on 580/680 at rush hour and do not plan to get anywhere close.

Matt,
Unless there is a accident two hours should be enough time with your planned route.
There, now someone else told you (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif)

I may have a little glitch, my wife, a teacher is having a problem getting a sub for Monday so if anyone is going back to the sf area on sunday, and has a seat open, I'd sure like to get her with you. Gas and food may be provided, and she is nicer to be around than me... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/happy11.gif) If we don't find a taker for Sunday I will try to get a flight for her out of Burbank. Thanks for looking....boy, am I ready for this.... Felix

Now that things have been settled on, I would recommend making a new thread with the pertinent and correct information for the caravan. This thread is now 12 or so pages long, and the info on the first page isn't complete or entirely correct.

It is important to make sure everyone in the caravan is on the same page. Meeting and departure times in Gilroy need to be clear. Maps should be included in the new post as well.

One week to go!

In order to plan for lunch, I'll need a pretty accurate head count (well, OK, a mouth count) NLT Wednesday, the 20th. Up or down a couple ain't gonna matter, but we need to have a ballpark estimate for the cooks. Thankyoukindly, The Cap'n hisownself.

I will work on getting a number for the WA, OR, CN group. I'm guessing at least 8 at this point. Could be ten.

I have 14 cell phone numbers so far. I will have printed lists for all who meet at Gilroy on Friday. If you are in the NW Caravan and want your cell number included send to jimchambers41@hotmail.com
