We decided you california guys can't have all the winter fun, so a spur of the moment ramble took place on old route 66. 3 cars from OKC, and 3 cars from Tulsa met half way in Stroud, Ok. at the Rock Cafe. Ok, only six cars, but its better than 5! Stroud was a town before statehood (1907) that sold whiskey to the cowboys who came in from the ranches, and to the indians who snuck off the reservations. That stopped with statehood when alcohol was banned. In the 1950's the Rock Cafe was like the internet today. Truckers families would phone the cafe with messages, and the truckers would pick them up on their way thru, and leave messages for when they called back. Featured items on the menu are Buffalo, and Alligator burgers (I had the Gator). With no preplanned itnerary, we really did just "ramble" around town for the afternoon. It was beautiful day. 65 Degrees and partly cloudy. Rare day in January in Ok.

Your pictures bring back memories of runs with the guys here. I have not been on a good run since the Baja Run II. The get togethers are fun but theres nothing like a good run spending time together and doing things together really make a run great. I am highly motivated now to finish my car and do some runs. Thanks

Nice pics Curt! I've got relatives down in Tulsa, might have to get down that way for a run someday (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/driving.gif) .
P.S. - the main drag through my town (Pacific, MO) is a section of the original Rt. 66., it kind of criss-crosses I-44 as you head SW from here. |

We took the tops off after lunch and they stayed off the rest of the day.
Kevin, Come on down. Where is Pacific? Maybe a 66 run between here and there sometime? My shop is just a mile off 66 (11th street). Joe, There are over 25 914 daily drivers that I know of in Tulsa alone. Plenty more in Okc. The damnest thing is that central OK doesn't have many good 914 roads (they're all in eastern Ok), and we still had a blast just cruising around with no destination. CC |

I lived in Lawton for three years (you know, Army), and I had a 914 there. There are some very nice roads in the mountains (yes, mountains) in SW OK. |

I'm about 35 miles SW of St. Louis. It's around a 6 hr. drive to Tulsa from here, but it is a very scenic trek. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/driving.gif) Attached image(s) |
