Fellow 'teeners" please join us at the PCA Chesapeake Region's CHESAPEAKE CHALLENGE #45 Sponsored by Porsche of Towson on September 19-20.

Come join your fellow Porsche enthusiasts as we celebrate the Chesapeake Challenge 45 in the lovely hunt county of My Lady’s Manor in Baltimore County. The site of this year’s Chesapeake Challenge is the Manor Tavern, located at 15819 Old York Road in Monkton, Md.

Be a part of the longest running multi-event program in the PCA. This year may be the best yet as we combine great driving roads, great food and company and a special guest, racing legend Vic Elford!

To kick off the event, we are planning a special reception on Friday night at Porsche of Towson where Vic Elford will mingle with the attendees and tell stories of his legendary years driving the 917 where I plan on asking him to confirm or deny whether he drove the 914/6 GT recently referred to as the "Larrousse and Vic Elford the Monte Carlo Rally and the Targa Florio 914/6 GT.

We will also hold a silent auction with proceeds going to club’s Community Service program. We plan to have many items available for the auction and encourage members of the club to donate services, products and other items of interest to this effort. One especially unique experience up for auction is the opportunity to have Vic Elford serve as your co-pilot during the Gimmick Rally on Saturday. He won’t be driving your car, but we suspect he’ll have a few tips for you.

On Saturday, the day starts bright and early with participants registering and preparing their cars for either Concours or Street Prep competitions. These judged competitions will result in a best in show in each category, with the winner receiving a lovely award. In addition, Vic has promised that he will also award a special gift from his collection to the car that he likes best. In addition to the judged competition, all attendees will have the opportunity to vote for the People’s Choice award.

After the judging is complete, we will enjoy lunch catered by Manor Tavern. Then we’ll start those engines and cruise around some of the best roads northern Maryland has to offer during the Gimmick Rally. For those new to such events, it’s more than just following the car in front of you! The Rally team boasted that they produced a great route without a single stop light!

After we return, there will be a few minutes to finalize your silent auction bids and trade your driving gloves for thinking caps—because next up is the Tech Quiz. If you think you know cars—and especially Porsches--here’s a chance to show your stuff. If you are not interested in taking an exam, the lovely grounds of the Manor Tavern will be available for tours. If you’re just ready to relax, you will find a warm and inviting lounge inside the Manor Tavern where you can enjoy a beverage of your choice.

After the Tech Quiz, the cash bar will open and we’ll be able to mingle leading up to the awards dinner. The Chesapeake Challenge group will be served in a reserved tented area and we shall hear more stories from Vic. Finally, we’ll wrap it all up with desserts and the awards ceremony, including presentation of the special Lufthansa Award and trophy.

If you still haven’t had enough Porsche for one weekend, there’s an Autocross the next morning at our usual location near BWI-Thurgood Marshall Airport. Registration for this event is separate from the Challenge.

For those in need of hotel accommodations, arrangements have been made with the Embassy Suites in nearby Hunt Valley, less than 20 minutes away via some very entertaining roads. Details on the hotel will be sent with your registration confirmation.

Registration opens on July 11 at www.clubregistration.net – don’t miss out on these space-limited events! If you are interested in donating items for the silent auction, please contact Bob Costello at cihbob1@hotmail.com or 410-937-1102.

The gimmick rallies are really a kick. No time involved just a bunch of clever clues of things along the drive with pretty straight forward instructions. Looking forward to it.

For those of you who might be planning to come to Challenge 45 in September but haven't yet committed, here is your reminder that registration will close on August 18th. So you should get your registration out of the way now and then you are covered. It's only $25 for a morning car show, afternoon gimmick rally and a late afternoon tech quiz. If you want to buy lunch it's $10.

We are planning on putting together a special race car section during the morning show and hope to get several 914s lined up.

If you're still thinking about the "Evening with Vic Elford" on Friday night, the separate registration for that event will remain open until September 12; which leaves some time. We do plan to open this event to our neighboring Regions on August 30th if there are still spaces open, something we just wanted you to know.

With the recent PCA 914 Registry thread getting quite a bit of action, why not some of you teeners in the MD, VA, DC, WV, PA area try out a PCA event in the MD suburbs on Sept 20th. Entry deadline is Sept 5th at clubregistration.net
