Hello Everyone

I am new to this site.

Lurking for about a month

I will be flying down to Atlanta and picking up Pankopp's converted 914.

Pankopp has been very patient with all of my questions

It looks like a reliable car and I can't wait to drive it home.

If there is anyone from Michigan that has a 914 please chime in.

I am hoping to meet a couple of people with some experience maintaining these cars.

I am new to them but a quick study.

Thank You for any help you can lend

Mike

Mike,

I'm in Plymouth. Also have a Subaru conversion teener, except mine was purchased as an unfinished project and hasn't made much further progress under my watch.

Have you had someone knowledgeable take a look at it? I ask because I was interested in that car a while back but in the pics there is some kind of metal riveted onto the longs then painted over. It may be for stiffening or it may be hiding a bigger problem with rust.
Otherwise it is a beautiful car. I wanted to buy it and switch it back to chrome bumpers. That green is really pretty.

Good luck and he safe! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

I would like to see your project sometime.

Thanks

I have not had anyone look at the car

I did notice the rivets and Pankopp says that there was some work done to the hell hole but has no idea regarding the longs

I plan to look underneath and double check the door fitment

Pankopp assures me the body is solid.

I may be naive, but I feel the car body is solid.

Thanks for the heads up

Kevin,

That's interesting - same thoughts occurred to me. I considered this car to be a decent starting point for a subi also, but had concerns about some of the body/metal work. Was too busy to pursue it. Glad someone did that's willing to dive in.

Welcome to the fun, Mike!

Thanks

I agree

Car is not perfect but a good starting point.
I wanted a good runner, not a show car.
Looking to learn a lot from this experience.

Thanks for your input

Hello Everyone

I flew down to Atlanta and purchased Pankopp's Subie powered 914

Sale went smoothly as Pankopp was very helpful

Drove her back to Michigan in 12.5 hours she purred on the Highway

Car is in good shape.
However I need to address rear brakes and adjusting the shifter (Im grinding 1st)

If anyone has any advice it would be most welcome

Thanks

Just curious, does the car have a Subaru transmission, or does it use the Porsche transmission?
