1970 Porsche 914-6 GT T Troutman Truck #0p
Not a factory GT, but originally one of the only five 914-6s factory built with the Sportomatic transmission, this car was acquired by Porsche builder Dick Troutman in the 1970's after the car suffered damage from an accident and was rebuilt as a pickup truck. A decade later it was sold to Kevin Jeanette of Gunnar Racing who spent 20 years restoring and building it as the 2.5 liter 914-6 GT racing service truck you see today. His inspiration was to decorate the car as a "factory" entered high speed service truck for 914-6 GTs racing the 1970 86-hour Marathon de la Route at the Nurburgring. Pretty sick truck. 1970 (1972?) Porsche 914-6
I noticed a few discrepancies with this car. It's labeled as a 1972, but the build date in the description indicates it was built in May of 1970. Not sure which is correct and which is the error, but the serial number posted will tell you for sure if you're interested in finding out. This car was originally a factory-built European 914-6 (Euro badging, multi-colored driving lenses and taillights, no side marker lights, etc.). A few months after it's sale in Finland, it was sold and shipped to America. Some inquired why it was not changed to American safety requirements when it came to America (taillights, side marker, etc.), which is an interesting point because for to be road-worthy in America, it would have to meet those requirements. The car was in good original shape before restoration, but I did notice a few things that the restoration made period-incorrect, most notably the vinyl between the back pad, the driver seat and the door card are not consistent in their textures. One is early vinyl, the driver seat is mid-70's vinyl and the door card is (not sure) but different from both. The wipers are also too far down (obviously can be reset). There were a few other things, but memory escapes me. Regardless, it's hands-down the nicest factory 914 I've ever seen (along with the 1974 Irish Green in the Brumos Collection). I was particularly impressed with the detail to the wheels, so I got some close-up shots for you guys for restoration purposes. Basically, for those of us who weren't around when they were new, this is what a factory car looked like brand-spanking new at a dealership. Pretty damn nice. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/first.gif) This car resides 12 miles from my house in Atlantic Beach. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

as lots of these information tables, also this one is not correct ... there were 16 factory built 914/6 Sportomatic I used to own the very last built I believe you are right. I think it was referring to the number of Sportomatics that were built that year, not altogether. If that's the case, it should have been worded more clearly. Or maybe it was thought to be just too much small detail information for such a short description. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) No, actually I didn't even see the VIN on it. I think it was removed from the windshield. But I'm sure if you contacted Gunnar Racing, they can tell you. By the way, here are images from when the 914-6 turned GT T was originally acquired after it's accident. When it was restored and built to a truck, it was not the GT spec truck you see today. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Since there's so many GT- T truck fans, I thought I'd post some detailed shots and descriptions of all the things that are going on with this truck since so many are interested. There were lots of things you didn't see on the car at the show because a lot of things had to be opened up to observe, underneath the car and in the cabin. So here are detailed shots and descriptions of what's going on with this truck. Also to help those of you who are interested in building one of your own. So here's 46 things you didn't know about the GT - T Op ("Opie"). Enjoy! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drooley.gif)
Notice the red adjusting screws on the lower Oscars. These are so the driver-mechanic could adjust them to the area where the car was broke down. ![]() The headlights are the motor free headlights. High pressure gas struts eject the light into the open position. ![]() Original GT tank still leaves room for a 6 inch alloy. Fuel pump is protected with a stamped aluminum shield. Just enough room for everything to fit. ![]() Note the strut. This could be used for a deck lid on any small car, but Porsche engineers figured by using this method they would save more than 10lbs of weight. ![]() When the daylight hours come the headlights are just pushed down by the mechanics. The cable goes to the cockpit and is in the cable housing for the front trunk (that isn't used anymore). ![]() Aluminum strut holds the tank in. On most other GT's this strut is steel. ![]() This is the 2 into 1 coupler so when the driver releases the cable it pulls both headlights. ![]() The Cibie light in the background is actually used in a lot of the original GT headlights. ![]() Some detail shots of the window area including the 12 volt safety switch. ![]() Adjustable roof mounted spotlight- so the driver could search for the car abandoned on the track in the dark. ![]() This special light came from Lebanon, Beirut. (Sweet! I'm Lebanese. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif) ) ![]() Factory 8" alloys. No paint. ![]() Factory 9" alloys in the rear. ![]() Gt door panels. ![]() ![]() Note the seat clearance for the emergency brake. This was done on the driver seat only. Some 914 GT's had the emergency brake between the seats, mostly rally cars. ![]() Note the oil lines. They are covered the oil lines in the Collier 914 GT. ![]() 914 GT's had the same wire harness as the 6 cylinder. Just a few added cables for extra ignitions and lights, etc. ![]() Fatty racing steering wheel. Note the oil tank level gauge. This car has capabilities of knowing how much oil is in the tank. ![]() Repa seatbelts for both seats. ![]() Plexiglas rear window and aluminum roll bar. That's right, aluminum. ![]() Cockpit safety switch is easy to get to between the seats. Not all GT's had this either. ![]() Twin grill- the way they should have all been built, not the non-matching grills with sheet metal screws holding them together. ![]() Trick 2.5L, 12mm twin-plug engine. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() "Op" is for the car's nickname "Opie". ![]() The ID light is a dash warning light (low fuel) from other racing Porsches. On the other side the light is blue which matches the dayglo blue. This would make it easy for the driver of the broken down car to see at night. Might be too late if he sees the light go by! He would have to wait another 15 minutes for the car to come around. ![]() Bilstein racing coil over struts with titanium springs. ![]() Headers with a Bursch extractor. ![]() The "T" stand for Truck. ![]() In this picture the "T" should stand for towing. Note the tow hook next to the red Le Mans tail light. Oh... did you see the cookie cutter tailpipe? ![]() Deck lid down. First compartment contains a floor jack with tow cable and jumper cables. Second compartment is an oversized 12 volt battery. ![]() How do you see at night - Special Marchal spotlights. ![]() The bungee cords would hold parts in the bed. In the rules, everything had to be bolted or strapped down including items in the truck bed. ![]() Each light has a different length cord. This one is 20 ft and the other is 30ft. These lights stand on their own when removed from their storage perch. ![]() In case you need gas. This is an original Esso German gas container. These containers were installed on the rally cars... just in case. ![]() Special adapted muffler clamps hold the quick remove Heinzmann fire extinguishers. ![]() Hazet was one of the sponsors. ![]() Reflective tape is installed on the outside of the toolbox. The toolbox is held in with hood gummies similar to the RS Carrera deck lid. ![]() The toolbox needed to be removed in a hurry. ![]() All the tools needed to work on a broke down 914. ![]() Nice things to have when you're rescuing someone. You don't know if they can be helped, but this gave them a chance to get back home (pits). ![]() Battery is in an easily accessible location- not in the engine bay. ![]() (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif) |

All great shots of the troutman truck, but why not make a new thread for it, one for each GT and one for the /8
there are so many pictures in this thread they all begin to blend together and the info is lost |

Correct me if I am wrong, but I am not up to speed on the differences between the LE line of cars.
First, it's basically a trim package? Right? I thought they were all black and yellow? There has always been a rumor of other colors but I though that had been debunked?? |

Why yes......I had read.....on the internet somewhere....that in an attempt to sell the remaining inventory the porsche AUDI folks painted these (LE) cars different colors in an attempt to market and mimic the so called "Disco Era" music popular at that time.
