I can move my shifter quite a bit in every direction. Already tried the JB weld fix a couple of times but it still gets loose. I don't have a welder, what is the next best way to fix this?

Thanks,
Rick

Side shifter? Firewall bushings, cup washer & new bushings on side plate, and new conical screws. Shift it by the shift lever on the trans by hand to see if there is any internal slop.

JB Weld? So it is not your bushings but your shifter shaft is busted.

Put a WTB in classifies. Be sure to state for side or rear shifter.

do you know any one with a wire feed welder?

you can disassemble the shift lever assembly and file/grind a couple of spots to spot weld the pivot ball on the lever, the dress the weld and reassemble.

I did this and it only toke about 45min to do so.

Yep, that's a side shifter. If you don't want to weld a part pm Gerald Shaffer here. He's on your side of the country. Otherwise, Bdstone here but he is on the West Coast.

if you disassemble the shifter you will see the pivot ball was epoxied to the sift lever, this is where you will file/grind in to the ball and lever a flat spot or two to weld at and then dress the weld to make it blend it to the lever and ball.

what's your time worth? buy a good used one, replace the 2 bushings that cradle the ball on the lever and put it in the car. 0 down time. the 2 bushings make a big difference with the shifting.

One solution I found is to utilize an old steering shaft. Take the u-joint off to use at the shaft coming out of the firewall. It uses the same diameter shaft. You will need to cut a slot in the shaft for the sinch bolt. On the shift rod itself you will weld the spline portion onto the end after removing the joint. Once I did this my shifter was much more precise.

Thanks, replied to Garold's PM and likely to buy one of his intact shifters. As always, appreciate the advice from everyone.
