I have a duel vacuum port advance unit on our 2.0. Can I ditch it and use a single port unit?
I think the second port is a decal thing for emissions right? Stock injection, tracked a vacuum leak and poor fuel mileage to the vacuum advance unit. |

All of the vacuum canisters for the distributor had two fittings. For many of the 74+ cars, the advance fitting was simply not used.
You can use whichever ports you like, but the engine would probably run best with both the advance and retard hooked up, as it was in the 73s originally. --DD |

How many ports on the throttle body? It might have only one port so only one connection, retard I think, can be used, at least that's my case. The Cap'n pointed out the ports have different sizes and you match the throttle port(s) to the vacuum ports based on the size of the hose to connect the ports; hose connects same size ports...

Stock injection, tracked a vacuum leak and poor fuel mileage to the vacuum advance unit. You could just unplug the vacuum line and put a bolt in the end to cap it off. Vacuum advance makes your acceleration smoother by adding advance earlier, but you will feel the difference only in slow traffic. When you stomp on it, like I know you do, the mechanical advance takes over anyways, so it's no different. So long as everything moves freely, and your advance plates are clean and greased, you will get used to the difference pretty quickly and it won't bother you. The retard side is used to SNAP the advance plates back to idle very quickly to reduce over run and extra fuel being released into the atmosphere......but it's not anything you will miss. Rich |
