I need to install new valve guides in a set of 2.0L heads and have run into
a problem. I had taken the heads to a shop here in San Antonio that has
always been the go-to guy with air-cooled motors. In a tragic turn of
events, the guy (one man shop) killed himself (not over my heads, I hope)
and I was worried that I might not ever see the heads again. Well I got them
back and he had done everything to them that they needed except install the
new valve guides. The old ones had been pressed out, and I have the new
ones. The problem is how far do they need to be pressed into the head? I
can't find a dimension in the Haynes manual.

Send them to HAM to get re worked by a pro. You dont want to crack the head or worse pressing them in wrong. Seats still need to be ground properly after the guides are installed.

Check Jakes site for info.

At least a shop that does aircooled. Too much press and you will crack the head...too little and they will fall out.

Spend the coin and cry once.
