My most recent endeavor is preparing for the Concours this coming weekend and my posts start #997 on the previous page please have a look.

Shout out to @Maltese Falcon and the terrific headers I have on my car.
Love my headers Marty, and I decided to paint your logo red.

More than a few hours cleaning under here. I don't think I've ever taken pictures from these angles before.

Fortunately or unfortunately, the pictures hide a lot of nicks from stones. But Yeah they still look pretty good!

Possibly my favorite shot so far in the process, is the first one here, in prepping for the Concours this Saturday.
Getting these beautiful Weber's cleaned up and the varnish off all the little nooks and crannies was not done in one day, as my back will readily attest!

As an aside, these were done by the now retired Weber Guru Paul Abbott Those of you that have never enjoyed the Paul Abbott experience missed a huge opportunity. Was he inexpensive? Nope! But he was the quintessential Engineer's Engineer, in that not only could he work his many years of experience magic on these, but devised also his own tools to work on and service them. His process was so thorough, including running them on his test engine and dialing them in, so when you got them, you just installed and they ran! Just as mine did!! I have not had to touch these carbs since his hands set them up. And that IMHO is his legacy.

If you haven't already looked back to the previous page, starting with post 997, please do to see and read why I'm doing all this cleaning craziness.

Jim @Lucky9146 Paul is still running his Weber biz...decided to relocate to East Coast; still doing work for my engine builder Aase Motors.
He's still backed logged 3 months on job orders too ¡¡

Makes me want to get another pair and work with him again (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Well, I am ready for tomorrow's Concours. San Diego PCA Zone 8 being held at Deer Park Winery & Museum, Escondido Ca. Should be fun!

I can honestly say that this has been a very rewarding experience in preparing for this event. My car is so improved through this process, with all kinds of little things being fixed, some newly discovered, some that were long overlooked. You know the ones that tend to end up on the back burner. Touch up paint, cleaning, wear and tear items, etc. Even though I've been working on it almost daily for weeks, a little here and a little there, it was still a long day today.

Today was the day! Great weather, great people, and great cars! Can't ask for better than that! To be honest, it was a bit disorganized at first, but soon it all came together.
Location was about 20 miles from my house straight up the freeway. I'm not a big fan of freeway driving in the 914 as it is a lot more fun on the twisties but it was pretty convenient.

The setting was a field near the winery, with a view of the vineyard and a special white sign just for the day, above one of the 3 car museum buildings on the property.

Judges made some very nice comments about my car and they seemed pretty serious. This was the first time this car had seen real scrutiny. They especially liked my story (I heard later) of how I came to own the car, and why, along with all that I had done to it. The head judge, who inspected the undercarriage and under the engine, asked if I drove the car there? Of course I had! But I have to admit I spent an inordinate amount of time under there over the last few weeks.

As the day went on a lot of people came by to express their appreciation for the car and a lot of questions were answered. We stayed close to the car almost the whole time there.

And the results, well I got a nice surprise, being awarded The People's Choice Award!

I addition, I won my class, Full Concours Vintage 5

That's me on the left with three friends who also won various awards for their cars.

Apparently the budget got cut in the trophy department (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) but the upside is they don't take up a lot of space, and I now have 2 extra 10mm sockets, and who doesn't need that! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
