With the Boxster front calipers, the 23MM master cylinder should be just right. You need to move more brake fluid with the 4-piston calipers...at least I believe those are 4-piston. Car looks amazing Tom. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Tom, car looks fabulous! Good choice on the braking system. That will make those Pittsburgh hills more tolerable (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Hope to see ya out there this driving season. |

So after a couple of rains to wash the salt off the roads and a bit of a warm day, I got to take the car out to test drive the brakes..
I took it out on two drives on some of my favorite local winding roads for about 60 miles. No traffic so I had many opportunities to make hard stops from speed. They are GREAT! The pedal feel is EXACTLY what I wanted, although some recommended the 23mm Master, I stayed with the 19mm master cylinder. And IMHO it is perfect. I like the amount of travel and I don’t have to stand on the brakes to stop. It is Almost like power brakes. ![]() My rear sway bar bushings were looking a little worn, and I have had a new set in my parts stash for a bunch of years now. Good time to put them on. Did the boiling water trick to soften them up and pushed them in with a screwdriver Tried using the vice but the screwdriver worked better. To install them on the sway bar I used a big C-clamp and they popped right on. Tried my biggest C-clamp on the end of the swing arm but couldn’t get it too work. So I got a 3 ft piece of scrap wood and jammed it up into the shock tower. With this I was able to keep the bushing oriented correctly and had enough leverage to pop them on. ![]() When on my way to Okteenerfest last year, we pulled in to a rest stop and when leaving, I got NOTHING from the starter. Crawled underneath with my remote starter button and got the starter to spin but not engage. A couple bangs with a wrench on the solenoid solved that problem. It didn’t give me any problems the rest of the trip, OR since then but it left me a little spooked So I pulled the starter out to think about rebuilding it. And found you have to unsolder the wires to the solenoid to dismantle it. That led to me buying this 1.4K hi-torque gear reduction starter. I didn’t have to give up my old starter for a core, so I may still think about opening it up in the future. I was running the Ford starter relay mod. But left it off of this starter. Funny little aside, during last years Okteenerfest drive, Jim and Terry, that had the other Olympic Blue 914 there, Had the exact same starter problem. While parked right next to me. Terry knew what to do immediately, and crawled underneath with a big crescent wrench to bang on the starter, and it started right up. Which contributed to me just replacing my starter. ![]() I think I am ready for this years drives. See you guys at the NEG and Okteenerfest 2025.
