How did you check the E-brake switch? I would pull that thing out, inspect it, and then check continuity from that wire to ground. That little switch gets a little abused due to its use/location and may have failed.


Have now inspected/checked both sender switches and related relays and all are OK. so I now begin tracing/testing the harness brown with yellow stripe wires from both sender switches. Will keep you posted.

Mine is a '72. I don't have a brake fluid reservoir. I have had the driver seat in and out over the past months of rebuilding this car. Perhaps the most likely damage to the harness is under this seat area. The seat belt harness wires were neatly cut off by previous owner at the seat belt fasteners. I begin this next arduous step by once again removing the drivers seat as I search for a harness grounding. Will keep you posted.

The blinking light in the combo gauge will blink when the key is on and EITHER the handbrake handle is up and not pressing on the handbrake handle switch, OR the master cylinder switch is closed.

If the wire going to either of those switches is shorted to ground, the light will also flash.

Looks like I found the problem. Earlier in this string of messages I described what I will now call a "shunt" between the alternator light and the emergency brake lights behind the left hand fuel gauge. The shunt, see picture, has a 2" length of straight stiff silver wire soldered at each end to the typical harness type wire (note different color code at each end!) encased in a thin shiny black plastic shrunk onto the wire, further encased in a hard black plastic sleeve (see in photo) also about 2" long.
I have removed it and now this problem is resolved (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) I will not fully relax on this until I have the installation of the rebuilt engine complete and have had a test drive.Attached Image
