Miller safety stuff is cheap at Cyberweld online.
Coats $25, Sleeves $12. I have 2 sets of each at my shop and at Rothsport. Prescription safety glasses have been added this month. With side shields. SAS full safety shields. You can find shield replacements on the Web for around a $1 each. I wear HF Hardy stretch gloves most of the day. But don't wear for grinding, they melt. I switch to Tillman leather for spark work. I have had 3" cutting wheels break and fly off. But always flew away from me. |

Dude... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) this is more appropriate in the sand box. Oh...wait...you can't do that. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) you push the boundaries with porn. Now this. A little gore first thing in the am. Do you sit around schemeing this shit or are you just naturally obtuse? 'OT'. 'OT'. 'OY VEY'! Figure it out man. Guy with a CD stuck in his face. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) I recall many threads in the past that featured fairly gruesome pictures of failure to use proper safety devices. Nobody was accused of being "naturally obtuse". I welcome any comment that might raise peoples awareness of shop safety. At my former job, I was always concerned about my eyes, ears and hands. To this day I won't pick up a tool without proper safety equipment. That's good advice. I don't care who it comes from. |

The thread was started last night, not this morning as you stated. The thing sticking out of the guys face is a 6" fiber cut off disc not a CD as you stated. This subject is very Germaine to the Garage portion of the forum, as that is were most PPE is needed and where the accidents occur. I can appreciate how you feel, but Please stop being so confrontational and lets just move on. Do you have anything constructive to add? |

This topic is extremely relevant. Alot of members here seem to be do it yourselfers and it merits discussion. Most all "accidents" are preventable with a little knowledge, equipment and planning.
Review your questionable safety habits and alter them, break the chain of events that lead to injury / death. The guy in the photo is most likely spending more to get his face rebuilt than the average 914 costs to build. |

What ever. Shit is sticking out of his face. Shop safety is nothing NEW. I am no stranger to work place safety. You seem bound and determined to present what ever pops into your head. Silence speaks volumes at times.

It may not be for you but actually in alot of cases shop safety is new to some. Its the old "I've done it for years like this" , or "got by" , or "it'll only take a second" attitude that allow the start of the sequence of events that lead to injury / death.
I think OU812 brought up a very good safety topic rarely discussed here. (With the exception of what jackstands to buy.) |

Again can we just move on ? |

Always wear known to be functional fall arresting equipment when appropriate.
Powder actuated tools are not toys nor for target practice. Unplug your worm drive saw before changing blades. Your thigh should not be confused for a sawhorse when using the above mentioned saw. Don't invest all of your faith in ANY jack stand. I ALWAYS have one of my floor jacks raised, in place and at the ready near the jack stand. How's that? |

Unplugging any tool before changing attachments should be a must, but I admit that I don't always do so.

Besides the Fire extinguisher fully charged and ready, I also just went through my Shops first aid kit, threw out all the old/ out of date stuff and replaced it with new.
After a few freeze thaws during 3-4 winters the gauze, tape, sterile wipes, sprays and creams become old and useless. Made sure the eye wash/irrigation bottle was up to date. Also stored the phone number of the nearest Medical clinic in my cell and its GPS location. I am sure just scratching the surface here.......... |
