One issue.. The new cable doesn't slip around the tube going in to the tunnel. It looks like this one is just a bit smaller than the old one, I'm sure it will eventually rub and break but I should be good for now 'till I get another one in, right?

I just replaced mine and had the same problem ( Cofle brand). It didn't seem like it fully went on the end of the tube. I jammed it on as hard as I could. I had to un-thread the ball end to just a few threads in order for the cable to reach the throttle body. I didn't pull it out to compare parts side by side since I already had it installed. It would be nice to know if there is a aftermarket cable that fits a bit better.

Maybe you should let dad work on his car?

Too soon?

If you were joking, it was probably inappropriate, and it caused me a horribly guilty laugh, but I never met the guy.

From the little I have heard of him, I am guessing he'd be laughing his (all too public) ass off at that line, though.

In fact, his attitude was clearly:

Attached Image

(I sketched that from memory about three days after the original was burned into my eyes in the pics thread)

Sorry I missed him, he sounds a hell of a good guy. No doubt he's saying something about the lengths he had to go to finally turn his kid into a 914 mechanic. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)

He will be riding along with you in the curves, Justin, the GG probably has a real G in residence now. Wouldn't surprise me if each new little problem on the car is *just* beyond the complexity of the last. By the time you need to do the big stuff, you will have learned how by doing the little jobs. Listen to those little tricky ideas you will get when you're stumped in the shop; it might be him with the tip you need...

His sarcastic spirit will be with you in the shop as well, chuckling at your mistakes. Don't mourn your loss, celebrate and cherish your time together.

(Thats more than I meant to add when I started this post, but I hadn't yet added my condolences, as I never met Slits. Figure it's about time if I am commenting here)

Thanks for the condolences Whit!

There's no such thing as too soon. I was really holding back a few jokes along the lines of molding ashes and waiting for a Disney magic moment then handing him a wrench. I also laughed so don't feel too bad. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

I have that picture and almost featured it at the memorial. It was a last minute decision to save the eyes of all the young children in attendance.

He always asked what I would do when he finally went.. Well, a-hole, I'm fixing --your-- car now.. This is payback for all the times he cursed at me while he worked on all of mine (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

BTW! Part? of the saga continues. Today I got it solid enough to drive and feel comfortable doing so.. Then I try to roll the bay door up at the office and the roll up breaks.. Owner of the building is telling us two weeks till it can be fixed (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif)

With some redneck engineering and a drill, I was able to get the door open and the car out. A couple more hours of tinkering on the jerry rigged cable length and I was set!

I'll change it out when the new one gets here next week but it looks like I'm good to go for now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Good for you; I'm not sure i know myself...

Apparently I am the unwilling ambassador from the Massengillian Contingency, or so i've been told. I tend to the prankster side of life, a double headed coin when we're drawing straws, if you will.

I didn't intend to cause anyone to feel hurt, I figured it was a joke (I can't speak for Justin, but think he saw it the same way), and considering what I have read and seen here, I didn't really think it was a, "So other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play..." kind of moment.

Sorry if I was the cause of any embarrassment (unless to myself).

Good to meet you!

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Enough derailing the thread now, let's watch the kid work. I heard he tore up a garage door yesterday to get his car on the road

Well sorta.. this side of the door broke and fell down. Drilled a hole and used the bit for a roller. Worked enough to get it out. Cable is a bit tight but I'll have 2 brand new ones Tues.

Whoa there. He didn't know so there's a pass for him. Just because you're offended doesn't mean I am. I'm the king of dark and wrong jokes.

It made me laugh my ass off and I was trying hard to refrain from really awful jokes that were sure to make anyone cringe.

(edit) I didn't feel it was a brush off on anyone's part. I wish I'd had the chance to meet the man, and I recognize how much he meant to the community. I wasn't trying to be clever as much as to finally find a light hearted way to add my sympathy and an attempt to maybe reflect on how someone I never met touched my life in a unique way. I must have misunderstood the feeling when folks were chuckling over the actual photograph of Slits baring his ass in the picture thread celebrating his time here...

I have seen how Slits had a unique attitude and sense of humor, and hope I expressed some of that in my message to Justin when I replied to Curtis' text. If my posting a sketch of *someone* dropping trou, or if anything else I posted here was offensive to either Toast or Justin, I apologize directly to both of you here and now. I guess if it pissed anyone else off, I can include them in my attempt at making amends.

I lost my mom last June, so I think I know the pain, and I also know that humor can be healing to folks that are grieving a loss. Sometimes it helps to laugh at the little things, to kind of reset your emotional balance, to take a step back and realize that it's okay.

I apologized to Curtis when I realized he hadn't heard the news. I didn't meant to put him on the spot. I too think he's a good guy, and didn't mean to be rude to him in my post. I figured that his response to me indicated he realized I wasn't trying to (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif) him. If I was wrong, and he really meant it when he flipped me off. I will feel that much worse about my post.

if anything, I was trying to ease the tension, not upset people. I have a great respect for the community. I met a lot of great people that post here, and have learned a lot about my car(s) by the grace of the work and threads I found here.

Wish for all of you the best. All of you.

Justin, I feel this is the time and place to say this. If you need anything for your car don't be afraid to ask for help or parts. Your Dad always gave me anything I needed and now I make you the same offer. I just wish you lived closer. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) Kent

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) Kent

Sometimes there is that one person that gets offended by something posted and they express their feelings. That has personally happened to me to the point where somebody had to call me at work so I can make a post to stop the bashing on the thread. You either accept it or lash back. The person who is offended either accept it's or doesn't. Either way you just carry on.

Curt, neither one of us were offended. We both realized right away that you didn't know about Ron's passing. And we took that into consideration. It's part of the SLITS way to address it and then carry on.

There are a lot of newbies on this board and a lot of people who have never met Ron. And we are thankful for that because the 914's are still living on. And that is really what this board is all about. There are times when you're not on the board very often and don't realize that things have happened. It is part of life.

Now...back to the shenanigans. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving-girl.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drunk.gif)

Thank you Kent! All you guys are fine, in fact I'll even go as far to say the members of this board are the reason I am taking this so well. There probably isn't much anyone could say that would be offensive to me, please remember I'm SLIT's son and got his sense of humor too.

Now back to shenanigans and an epic adventure of a repair that's so simple, I should have been done last Monday.

It feels like it's binding at the firewall tube, the pedal and engine linkage are both free but the cable won't return sometimes. When it's freed up it feels like I'm sawing the cable, not a smooth movement but dragging somewhere.
Maybe I should just stop and wait for the new ones to get here Tues.
