Hi,
I have replaced the interior carpeting as well as outer rocker panels and it is now time to rivet the threshold plate and rocker back onto the car. Can anyone who has done this let me know what size rivet I need, as well as where I can order enough of these black, metal rivets for the job? Thanks, Evan |

1/8"? I expected it would be a metric size.

Nope. 1/8" fits just fine. Some things are pretty standardized. Like seat belt bolts are always 7/16 fine. The Cap'n

So, is it also a 1/8 drillbit that is used to remove the existing rivets?

I've found a couple of things that are SAE on my car... is this a rare "Americanized" 914? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif) Am I crazy or does a 1/2" fit the adjuster on the rear calipers better than a 13mm

not crazy, just have not been around mechanics long enough (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif) there are quite a few wrench sizes that "interchange" or are close enough to work..... common sizes: 7/16 for 11mm, 9/16 for 14mm, 3/4 for 19mm not many threads interchange, but there are a few that are close enough for non-critical components....(5mm and 10-32 threads often can be interchanged) |

Just my opinion but I didn't rivet mine on. I use shallow stainless screws to hold them down. I like the idea of being able to easily remove them for periodic inspection and cleaning.

rivets are dirt cheap, you run the risk of damaging the hole if you tighten the screws too much since there is not a lot of material for the screws......... do a search here, I think Demick posted a link to a place that had the black rivets that are close to the factory ones....of course if you can get from the dealer, then it's a no brainer... |
