QUOTE(arne @ Oct 9 2017, 03:11 PM) *

On this day, 9 October 2017, I am declaring this project to be completed.

I'm satisfied.

Today's tasks that led to that declaration were installing the threshold plates with the correct plastic rivets, recovering the sides of the center console, and replacing the pair of rear transmission mounts with fresh 911 Clubsport mounts. Oh yeah, I changed the bulb in the rear trunk light. So that works now also.

Obviously, there are always more things that could be done, but for a driver-quality car I believe I have reached the point of diminishing returns.

Overall, I'm pleased with how it turned out. The car looks good, drives good, and everything works. It attracts attention and draws compliments everywhere I take it. It is a fun car to drive. What more can you ask?

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif)

Once on the subject of threshold plates, my car is a late '73 and wanted to know if mine should be black plastic or aluminum? They came with black plastic and I would like to put back the correct ones. Let me know and good luck on Wednesday.

Thanks

I may be incorrect, but I thought 75 was the start of the plastic. One of the cost cutting measures that went into production as part of the model change.

Nope, apparently the change was mid-year '73. PET shows part #914.551.419.11 as "cover strip, inner, plastic material, from 4732918919"

I might do another 914, depends on whether I find the right car. Whether I’d do a 6 conversion would also depend on the car. The one I just finished was too original to mess with. A different car might go a totally different direction.

I don’t think so, Jeffrey. I’ve never been a big 356 fan, buy in price will likely be higher than I want to go, and the rust is too extensive for my comfort. Strike 3...

That’s why it’s a “SUPER” Project!

Cool car though, even if it’s “SUPER” slow!

Perhaps. But for my recreation projects, I need to look at them a lot closer than I would if they were cars that I planned to keep because I wanted them. A car that I might keep for a few years at least gives me more flexibility to overlook some condition shortcomings, compared to a car that I want to sell when finished. The resale car needs to meet a higher standard, I can't afford to overlook something and get underwater.

Not as slow as you might think. I've seen a couple of well driven 356s on spirited PCA drives up here, they keep up just fine for quasi-legal twisties.
