Here's an interesting piece of 914/6 GT racing history for sale on EBay......

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&...lobalID=EBAY-US

This a RARE opportunity to own a factory PORSCHE racing history! In 1970 Porsche's racing dept was totally involved in developing the 917. Two cars were pulled from the 1970 914/6 assembly line and were factory built into 914/6 GT racing machines by Sunauto in France. One being the famous Sunuato car and the other the Sunoco #5 Car. After the #5 car won the GT division of the 24 hrs of Daytona 1971 race and 7th overall! The owner and one of the 3 drivers, Mr. Duval removed this wheel at the end of the 1971 season and kept it, until I purchased it last year from his son. Mr Duval graciously signed the wheel on the backside and wrote a letter documenting the historic feat of man and machine. This is a very valuable piece of PORSCHE racing history that cannot be duplicated. This auction is not for everyone, but for that special person who appreciates this accomplishment. The price will not be lowered, I have additional photos of Mr. Duval signing the wheel, but for his privacy will not be shown.

In the 356 and early 911 world special steering wheels are a big subject.
And big money.

I'm confused, not saying Mr. Duval didn't use that wheel but a Prototipo wheel wasn't a factory option was it? I had a real race department issued steering wheel 914.347.803.10 5/70 that had its original leather cover 3 5/8". It was used on 914-6 GT's and 911ST. Most original pictures I have seen show this VDM wheel being used. I think the Prototipo wheel was a personal choice of the driver, does anyone have a options list showing you could or this wheel? My wheel sold for almost 5 figures and was being resold for more.
