The VW Jetta sidemarker lights behind the front tire is a cool update.

US DOT regulations were typically met with shitty responses from Germany. The crappy, out-of-place marker lights on the front fenders of 914s is a very good example. Remove at will, I say.

As for the knock offs, if you can see the lug nuts behind the "knock off device", then I consider it silly window dressing. Lug nuts and knock offs are mutually exclusive. A 914 isn't a British sports car and no Porsche, apart from some very rare early 356s (as an ever rarer option), ever had that method of wheel retention. (As far as I'm aware)

I think the turn signal does a good enough job as a side light.

For a front reflector, reflective yellow sign vinyl would work.

Can't one of you super creative or resourceful folks find or come up with a low profile lens with an LED that fits the OEM housing ?
I am going to try to find something / make something.

If successful would it turn a Wart into a Mole or "Beauty Spot" ?

Looks good Curtis. I deleted mine from Dad's car and regret it zero. While it makes the rare and hard to find Porsche bra irrelevant (don't PM me folks - we all have one in a box for sale), looks do matter.

The knock offs on empi mags are an interesting addition. Do you have problems in Oakdale with small kids or animals running next to the car? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/av-943.gif) (Thats how it was in Nipomo)

There was a kid with a 69 VW in the neighborhood with the same wheels who painted the spokes the same color as the body, chromed the ring to match the knock offs. Yours looks good as is, but his looked really good. His chrome yellow VW is one of my all time favorite cars.

I was thinking this as well. - low profile maybe flush or slight bubble, however we always talk about visibility , problem about being seen, its ok but I don't think its an "upgrade" in any way - besides that , any car show formal or informal you are no longer in "stock"class, but "Custom" - with that said do what you want, I think it looks fine, just saying - BTW love that color of yellow! - ( ironically I have just taken my BUB's off my 75 and they are getting the chrome treatment) -

Hey Tom,
If you look at my avatar, the Empis were painted yellow in the center. I thought it looked cheesy and took the paint off to where they are now. The knock offs do come out on axel extensions with a dash switch to keep country game away from the car. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

I get that, but always thought it a little odd that restoring a car to the original design and how it was sold in much of the world becomes "custom." I've always thought converting to euro lenses wasn't complete without shaving the warts.

Before my car is done, I'm going to get a pair of these or something similar to play with the idea of hiding a stealth marker in that crevice behind the front bumper, or perhaps the door jamb. Success or failure might determine whether the warts get shaved.

The ideal side marker for me would be one that is invisible until it is turned on.

Hey all,

So I'm wondering if our LED upgrade experts can add something that will give us the side light we "need" to be "legal"?

Maybe a teeny tiny "spacer" between the light housing and the lens that would be, itself, lit?

I dunno. . just rambling here.

Here is what I did with mine. I think I found the lights on ebay--they are led truck marker lights. I actually had to enlarge the factory hole just a bit to accept the grommet that holds them even though the lights are smaller and thinner. I don't mind the black grommet against the satin black paint--not sure how they might look against a brighter color. Plenty bright to be seen at night but not as bright as the picture makes them look. I know I will get hammered for putting truck parts on a 914 but I am just an old redneck ex trucker anyway so let the hammering begin. I think they look 100 times better than the stock lights. Just my opinion. Attached Image Attached Image

Shaved off the warts. Also, I know it's up to me, but I'd still like your opinions. I added knock off centers to the Empi wheels instead of plain center caps. You like em, or no?

Love the look without the warts! Not so much the knockoffs...looks too British...may cause oil leaks and electrical gremlins....ok if you like warm beer. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I just washed it before the picture it was so nice here in So Cal yesterday. But now that you asked I need to check my coolant and radiator.. It has a Suby in it but really fresh green coolant so I don't really think it is a problem.
