period correct - yes - on japanese cars they were then required by law, and also in some euro countries if you race your 914 you will understand why they are extremely useful - you don't have to turn your head to see overtaking traffic (oem door mirrors are useless!) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) you see Raydyots on many Brit cars, and they are well received concours items in those circles - extensively repro'd & Talbot 300's are considered correct on period Cobras - you'll a lot of these at vintage racing Talbot here on a '68 911 at RRV Porsche factory display . Talbot here on my car at WSIR - i leave 'em off unless on track, cuz yes they are ugly on street, especially if one also has door mirrors - (concours judges always go apoplectic over the mount holes unless i remember to plug 'em before they see the car) a set of orig'l chrome-on-brass Talbots is worth a good bit, fyi (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cheer.gif) Larry, Thanks for the info and pics. The second pic is exactly what I wanted to see. While there seems to be little positive response for the look, I'm still on the fence. My particular car has shaved handles, headlights, and side markers, so, if I go this route, it won't look as "cluttered" as I think some would suspect. Also, it would be my only set of mirrors...my particular county in GA isn't that particular with all the nuances of emissions, mirror placement, etc. To your point though, after Rob mentioned the name Talbot, which I wasn't familiar with, these things are definitely pricey! Thanks again for the pic! |

on this site we also get wildly variant opinions on rear reflectors, wheels, and many other personalization & competition items - each to one's own, eh? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

Craigers, Where did you find the cool 510 pictures. I am running a 70 510 in vintage racing. Haven’t seen those pictures before
I drove a bone stock 1600 510 for three years while living in Japan. Somewhat comparable to a stock 914. Have run my race prepped but stock motored 510 on the same track that I have run my 2.4 six. The six much faster, the 510 much more tossable (race tires). Kinda similar from the perspective of same vintage driving feels. Nev er compared lap times as the six has easily twice the HP. Installing an 1800 race motor in the Datsun for this season, should be a better comparison. Both about equal on the cool scale! |
