I am 75 but i am not average. Bought my first 914 in 1983 on a whim when driving past it and saw it in a used car lot. It was a white, originally yellow, 74 1.8 and paid $1800 for it. Drove it three years until the cam gear stripped out. Are any of us "average" I don't think we think anything like that (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) |

I'm 55! I remember the first time I saw a 914 back in the early 70s when I was a young lad. It was yellow. I liked the looks so much, I made one for my first pinewood derby car. I took 1st Place Show but, like a most 914s, it wasn't very fast. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yellow914.JPG)

I’ll have it 14 years in August, longest stretch of any car I’ve ever had. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) |

My father purchased our 914 in 1974 new from Ely Porsche Audi in Hayward when he was 25 (He's now 74 will be 75 this year 9/22). I got my father to bring the old girl out from the garage in 2004/2005 after it broke down in 1992. I learned to drive it after it got running again at 17. I am 36 currently but will be 37 on 9/11. This is our first any only 914. I've added a few tasteful modifications to the car over the years. Our 914 turned 50 in April of this year per the production date. My father still owns it but I drive it more than he does now.

Or three, maybe four! At the moment I have 5 914s, 4 are the drivers in the picture and 1 more that I haven't decided if I am going to restore, part, or sell. and then I probably have at least another 3-4 cars worth of parts. Last I looked I for some reason have 7 spare trannies. Now that the first car I bought is done I'm planning on thinning out the horde somewhat. though with 4 drivers it pays to keep some spares around. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif) |

Concrete seems harder at 71. I can only imagine. At 19 I daily drove my 914, drove it from Orange County to Salt lake city non stop, no problem, didn't feel a thing. That was with 180lb springs to boot. Only 44 now and half a day driving a 914 and I feel it for the next couple days. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) bit like you. 63. had the 14 for 35 years. longest i have held on to a car. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) amazes me, i was 28 when i got it. time flies. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) EDIT dug up some pics. 89 - the jaffa was 15 believe i was parked out front of the johnson wax factory by frank lloyd wright. summer just passed - on the opposite side of the blue marble. its looking better than me i can tell you that. a few dings and pings in it but nothing like the creases in my face. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) still wearing its factory paint and dealer check stamps. you can tell i am lazy and don't clean recesses. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif) problem is gonna be where does this go after i go? |

72. Bought my first 914 in 1975, a ‘71 1.7. Currently own 3 914’s, 4 if you count the ‘72 parts car like my wife does. Picture is of “our” 73 1.7 taken in 2020 (guess where) before it was painted green. Still trying to get it back together.

I remember driving my new ‘73 1.7 overnight so I could get that view at sunrise in ‘74. The road into the Valley from Oakhurst is one of my all time favs; twisty, perfectly banked, one turn leads you into the next. Traded that one in on a VW camper bus in ’77. Lifestyle change. I’m 75 now and have two ‘74 2.0’s. The appeal never dies. |

Average people don't own & drive 914's.
I'm 72 now. Bought my 914 when I was 62. |
