Nice bench! Resolution a bit low but looks suspiciously like HAM radio gear. I wonder how many folks we have on here that live in both electronic/electrical worlds and the mechanical side? I've made a career of being the Mechanical Engineer that could understand and work with the Electrical Engineers. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) Especially so now as everything is electro-mechanical. Someone once said the 19th century was improved by ME's, the 20th by the EE's, and now 21st is going to dominated by the Software Engineers. Seems right so far. I'm just a man from a bygone time. Every mechanic worth his/her salt should have a good assortment of dental picks, Oscar ... but I do also have a nice assortment of pliers (and pain meds) too (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif)
Yep, I still tinker with old tube and early transistor radio communications gear every now and then. The new surface mount stuff is for the kids with good eyes and steady hands (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif) My AZ main garage door is shaded from the front deck so it doesn't get too warm in the summer, but it DID get real cold in the winter. I also installed those 1" foil-sided foam boards and it made a huge difference in the winter. My RV garage gets full sun all day long, but I had the house painted last summer and went with a light tan color on the garage doors. It's helped to keep the heat down, but winter's a different story. It's a roll-up door so I don't think it can be insulated (?). I may have to install a roll-up curtain or something (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) |

More Ghia work. Installed a 70's circa JetSounds AM/FM/Cassette deck in the dash. It was originally in my '71 914 when I bought it. I also replaced the deteriorated cardboard glove box insert with a new one made from ABS. The trunk release lever is mounted in the glove box, and it had broken loose ripping the cardboard to shreds, and making somewhat of a trick to open the trunk. The toughest part of this task was making sure to drill the (7) holes to mount the entire mechanism in the exact spot it needed to be in, plus cutting a slot in the bottom for the release cable to exit. It was originally installed with rivets, but I used #8 screws, flat washers and nutz to reinstall it (just in case I fuched-up my measurements). Thankfully, it all worked out just fine (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mueba.gif)
Found a bag with all the front 3-point seat belts parts, so those got installed too. Also found and installed the little spring that flips the gas filler door open. No more reaching in to pull the handle under the dash with the left hand while stretching to pry the door open with the finger nails on the other hand (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif) Then I decided to wash it. A prospective buyer is coming to check it out on Wednesday, so it'll look nice and pretty (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cheer.gif) ... Then I drove it around the neighborhood to make sure any water I missed while wiping it dry got blown off (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) |

Had to design and print this. Any guesses to what this is? Mini electric chairs? Close. This will be a test fixture for a CPU PCB and a sensor PCB. The printed plate they are on will be a PCB. The "electric chairs" are clamps to hold the PCBs in place. There will be spring loaded probe pins on the test PCB to make all the connections to the CPU and sensor PCBs. |

I did a solo drive out, up, and over the Ortega Highway. My car is in good nick and there was open road both ways! Beautiful morning. Stopped there many a time. It reeks of Piss smell if the wind is out of the east. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sunglasses.gif) |

Like the represent speed. On a KG? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/av-943.gif) IMHO, KG's look beautiful when dressed out with the proper bumpers and overriders. FWIW, the nose on mine was virgin which is rare. It sold quickly because of the unmolested nose cone. GLWS Mark. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

Check out these power supply capacitors. There are four of them at 47,000 uF. 7oz mini Mountain Dew for relative size comparison. You should see the ones I changed on our laser...$1300 ea and the size of a gallon paint thinner can; 75 uF @ 2.5kV. Making sure they were discharged correctly was just a little scary-the official instructions actually said to use a screwdriver. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) |
