So the 914 was such a success, I decided to dig into something else...
This one is a LOT less motor work, a LOT less body work...and about 1/8 as big. http://www.hardman.org/pix/vespa/vespa.html Just picked it up on Friday. 1973 Vespa 150 Speed Veloce 2480 original miles New Tires Rebuilt motor VERY solid body! I'd told the local vespa shop if they found anything interesting to give me a call. I got the call on Monday, and the story is that it was a friend of his neighbors that had it in a barn. Larry (mechanic) went to look at it and it'd been sitting for 25+ years, so he spent last week re-building the motor, putting new tires on it, and rebuilding all the breaks. I got the call on Friday that it was all set, and I picked it up an hour later. I'm going to spend the rest of the summer learning to ride, and then I'll strip it, and re-build it this winter. I'm SURE I'll dump it at least once before the winter, so I may as well wait till AFTER that to restore the thing. |

Brandon just finished up a 63 Lambretta. Very cool. Very fun to drive. I've had my eye on a Vespa. It's on the To Restore list, but not very high.
Congrats! |

I hate contributing to the downfall...(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif) but it looks like a scooter place is going out of business...

What I'm finding is that most things only cost $10-$30. There are only 200ish parts to the whole scooter, so it SHOULD be a pretty fun project. The mechanics that I'm working with are pretty cool about showing me how to do stuff. They also say that you can basically start with a tub, and rebuild an entire bike with mostly new parts for about $3K. My kind of restoration. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif) I'll have a whole army of them in no time!
Like I said, I'm going to learn on this one, then spend the winter tearing into it and restoring the body. I'm thinking I'll use 914 paint codes though. Right now, I'm thinking Ravenna Green or Laguna Blue...with my first attempt at pin-striping! |

It needs about 20 more mirrors!
Looks like a fun project, get a helmet with a big huge spike on the top when your cruising. |
