Since my wife was out, I used the fancy toaster oven to heat the gears up to 170F. Please don't tell.

After heating, both gears and the intervening spacer went on easily.

Was the thrust bearing cut to fit the case?
Your wife asked us not to tell what she was doing so it all good. |

Looking good, Bob. Takes me back to when I rebuilt my first VW motor (40-horse T1) when I was 16. One of my older brothers taught me to heat up the gears in the oven.
Unfortunately, I only got half-way around the block and the motor seized up (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) ... then found out the arrows on the pistons have to point towards the flywheel (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) I recently painted some sheet metal parts for my Harley, and baked them in the oven (after a day of sitting out in the sun) ... my wife came in the house and started sniffing around the oven - and gave me 'that look' (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) ... but the parts came out looking great (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) |

Back again--and back on engine work.
Today I started checking the rod bearings. These are 0.25mm under-sized, since the crank had a previous grind done. The crank was polished and the rods were checked and balanced at PE. Attached thumbnail(s) |

Then removed. This one looks like 0.0018 inch, within the range (0.0008 to 0.0028).

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) The Romex cables under your cabinets by the toaster oven. We are assuming you must have upgraded, since there is light on both sides of that fancy toaster oven..at least they are taped off. I guess it’s better than some of the stuff I see on jobs. PS. Project is coming along very nicely (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

While the rod was still on the crank, I checked the side clearance, and got 0.016 inch, just within the 0.004 to 0.0016 spec.
