Going back to last week, when I mounted the lower dash pad (knee pad) I was unhappy with the gaps at the tops of the side sections. I pulled the pad off, and then got out the same welting material I used to fill the gap I had around the instrument cowl part of the upper dash pad. I cut 2 sections and made some V-cuts to make bending around the corners easier.

I mounted these with all-purpose adhesive and 3/8 inch staples.

i think every 914 i have looked into hs a gao between that lower bolster and the upper. This looks like a simple way to fill that in without permanently modifying it.
where did you source the welting?

I bought this stuff:
