But before installing the glass, I needed to prep the targa frame. At some of the corners, the original sealant plugs were present but not even with the metal channels. I shaved these down.

So I got out the 3M body sealant and touched up all four corners.

Late in the day, I touched up the corners with paint. Upper left.

That looks really nice. Often an overlooked detail or just done wrong. Discovered the PO on my 914 sillyconed the back window from the outside. Ugh.

A job welt done ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-23343-1619750041_thumb.jpg) It looks great! I had my car done with welting just like you did, but I had it done in a contrasting red to match the exterior. I wish I had done the tops of the vents like you did. Clay |

I got busy with the rear window installation. Found the rubber spacers.

I then ran the butyl strip all the way around, starting from the upper left corner.
NOTE!!! After I got done, I realized that I should have checked the lower edge (top of firewall) for straightness. Mine has some high and low (actually forward and rear) spots that made it impossible to seat the glass evenly. Attached thumbnail(s) |

Since my garage was about 55F this morning, I tried warming things up with my heat gun, but that was not enough--without cranking the heat up and risking something bad.

So instead, I put a portable heater in under the engine compartment and a blanket over the targa bar. I gave it a couple of hours to warm up.

After that, I was able to squeeze the butyl more and get a better looking seal all around, but I may try for more.
Meanwhile, I added some blue tape to remind me that the glass is there. Otherwise, after more than a year without glass, I might forget and try to put something through the space. Attached thumbnail(s) |

Time to get the cam ready. This is a Web Cam grind #86 (00-152), a moderate street cam which should work in my 2056 with injection.
Step one: index the cam on the gear and bolt them together. (And yes, I have soft aluminum between the vise jaws and the gear.) Attached thumbnail(s) |
