On the new one, it measures about 1.00"

This means the clearance for the switch plunger is about .04" less, so the plunger is depressed a bit and the switch closed, even with the piston in "neutral". Not good part 2.

Lesson, be wary of after-market, no brand MC. Time for a better one.

Couldn't you just cut off the difference from the end of the switch's plunger? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Glad you're figuring it all out before you hit the road and your brakes possibly fail.
Scary!

I don't know why some master cylinders have the reset switch where the plug is and some don't. Mine tripped when we replaced a front brake line that was seeping and it took me a second to remember the reset switch. As soon as I touched the switch the brake light went off. I was lucky. After I figured this all out, I cut shorten the plunger. But that's not very OCD. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Yup. ATE MC ordered. Along with all the calipers and rear pressure valve rebuilt by PMB, and all new hard and soft lines, that should give me a quality and reliable brake system.

OK, enough brake fun for a while. How about some door window fun instead?

The last time I tried this, I was unhappy with the after-market vent window rubber. It did not have a groove for the metal tab on the triangular piece that sits at the base of the glass, and connects the front vertical channel to the door body. So I ordered a pair of factory rubber pieces.

Here's the triangular piece from below, inserted into the horizontal section of the vent window rubber. I had to cut a slit in the very thin rubber there.

And from above. The metal tab fits nicely into a recess in the rubber.

Vent window installed into the new rubber, along with a new channel cap on top.

Vertical channel inserted into the door, with the adjuster bolt at the bottom. I put a touch of grease on the threads.

Then two M6 bolts at the top. The rear one (right) attaches the triangular brace, and thus the vertical channel, to the door. The front one attaches a second narrow metal tab to the door.

With the window and rubber seated fully into the door, the rubber edge sits evenly. This is what I could not achieve with the after-market rubber.

But now, I have interference between the vent window rubber, and the A-pillar weatherstrip that I had rough-cut last year. A bit more precise trimming took care of that.

I did a quick adjustment of the alignment, and it looks like a 914 vent window.

Yeah, I know there is no windshield (yet). Working on getting one.

But there is an annoying gap between the vent window rubber and the A-pillar rubber. More adjustment fun ahead. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

That is a good fit. I hear ya on the aftermarket rubber fit. Mine wanted to tuck in when the window was rolled down. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I got started on the left door, so I can compare the fit to the right side.

When I attached the vent support triangle bracket, I discover that the mounting holes are slotted, so the vent window can be shifted up or down on the main window track. I may need this adjustment on the right side.

Given how the right side fit, I decided to include a washer between the bottom adjuster and the door.
