To me, getting the windows and the targa top seals to fit was the biggest PITA job on the entire car.
Took many, many hours.

Maybe I should never take it outside where it might get wet, or dirty and need washing. Then I will not need seals, right? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

I needed a break from playing window adjuster, so I tackled the targa top rear seal. Here is the replacement I got from 914 Rubber. I know it can be installed as-is, but I want to duplicate the original.

First, I test fitted the metal strips, including the side pieces that were molded into the original rubber seal.

Starting to modify the rubber. I removed the flat flaps from the side sections, and trimmed about 3 mm from the flap along the transverse section.

I used 3M weatherstrip adhesive to first glue the entire rubber piece to the top, and then some glue on the side metal sections.

The side metal sections went into slits made in the rubber "cylinder", and then I screwed everything down with new SS hardware.

Then to mimic the original molded-on rubber, I glued the slit rubber to the top (bottom) of the side metal pieces.

The small tag on the glue side makes me think this was a factory piece, and probably original to the top.

Time once again for Weldwood adhesive spray. I spent almost an hour masking off the top, and then sprayed both the top (light coat) and perlon (heavy coat).
