The mounting ears were bent out. I took the chance and bent them back in, which helped with the fit in the new pad. I also has to trim the corners in the pad recesses.

I also had to trim the corners in the new pad recesses, to make them more angular.

Final adjustment: take a bit off the sharp corners of the mounting ears.

Not 100% but pretty good. I did have to drill holes for the mounting ear screws.

Installed. I did have to punch a few new screw holes in the targa bar.

Time to install the towing tie-downs (more later). I got the 914 up on jack stands for the first time in 2024.

Step 1: pop off the rear sway bar links. A good use for the ol' ball joint fork.

To make clearance, I lowered the shock-spring assembly after unbolting the top mount.

With the trailing arm lowered, and the nut undone, the big bolt slides out.

I used 3M 8857 for a lot of rubber repairs and it seems to work well, except in extreme heat, and is sandable to make it nicer looking Kevin |
