We had a great time in Colorado and Utah at RRC 2024--the 20th iteration. The car ran well (I still need to work on the tune, still a bit rich and occasional hesitations). And despite my awesome 125 hp, it was hard to keep up with some of the big sixes. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

The only time my car did not run well--or at all--was the last morning. We drove from the hotel to the storage yard to load on the trailer. Once I had the truck and trailer out and ready, I tried to start the 914 but the fuel pump was silent. I waited and tried again, but nothing. I checked the pump fuse, and the fuses and connectors on the Megasquirt board--still nothing.

A little muscle got the car close, and then I winched it onto the trailer. VERY happy I installed the winch.

All the way home I wondered how I would get the car up my driveway and then up the turn into my garage. But the gremlin was gone, the fuel pump ran, and the car started.

But now I have to worry about why the pump was dead earlier.

Is your pump still getting power from the relay board? It may be that the contacts aren't solid. The same thing happened to me and drove me crazy. In the end, all I needed was a new relay, and to slightly expand the prongs so they fit more snugly in the socket.

Follow the path and eliminate any possible source of the interruption. Probably 1/2 century of dirt in there somewhere.

Looks like a great outing with the crew and a great turnout with a bunch of teeners

Sorry about the fuel pump failure. Boy, if you are going to break down, your could not have timed it any better. Right onto the beautiful trailer with the perfect winch setup. I am sure you will sort the issue. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

To be honest, I don't remember if I replaced any of the relays with new ones (and presumably the fuel pump relay first). I have to dive back into my receipts.

saw the liner for the targa on your list. Sticky back pig mat kinda looks the part and seemed to work.https://rni.wvumedicine.org/memoryhealthclinic/

See if you can stop at a body shop and buy 5$ dollars worth

Kevin

Thanks, Kevin @nivekdodge , but the link goes to a medical site.

Not on the list, but this tiny detail has bothered me since I put the dash together. Maybe if the other knobs didn't look so good.

After watching for years, this popped up on eBay. I know others are around but I wanted to match the original. Not perfect but...

I did go back to my receipts and notes. And that triggered my senile brain.

With my Dub Shop Mega Squirt system, power for the fuel pump comes from the MS installation in the trunk, with its own relay there. The power lead goes from the trunk to a new connector on top of the motor, to a custom/modified cable to the 12 pin plug one the stock relay board, to the 14 pin plug and stock cable (and then an extension of the stock power wire that reaches the pump under the fuel tank).

I actually have no fuel pump relay in the stock location. The fact that I did not recognize that last month shows how bad my senility has gotten. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

But I did find time to fix a trivial detail that has bugged me for a couple of years. I always thought the side mirrors droop a bit, i.e. they are not horizontal.

I took this photo with the mirror rotated perpendicular to the door, and with the camera horizontal. If you are fussy like me, you might see the how the mirror inclines down to the right. Ignore the dirt--my car still needs a wash after the RRC in September.

It's good to have a son who is into car stuff, clever with CAD and 3D printing, and willing to help. Using the stock mirror base gasket, he created something similar but with a wedge shape.

Side profile. Like the original, it has a recess for the mirror base.

My son likes details, so he designed-in the wedge angle: 4°. We also tried 3° and 5°.

The material has a moderate amount of flex, to conform to the slight curvature of the door top.

Same horizontal photo with the wedge installed. Now I can look at the mirrors and be happy.
