You are correct it can be made to work. Th knowledge on how it works is a hole new item. (Yes the hole is a reference to how it works in a 901) I do see it has that wonderful puck with 4 magnets in it. Need to see the other side as that is a critical measuring surface to make the system work. GLWTS |

Our 914 FWSM specifies this VW385 tool requiring subtools /1 /4 /12 /14 /16 /17 not all of which included on your list. Here is my reference for VW tools applicable to the 914, which just summarize what is indicated in the FWSM:

I suspect I’m not alone in my interest but scared off by European post from member with zero previous posts.
Risk seems too high for me given recent phishing that was occurring here and the high cost of this tool. Using paint pattern method does work. Wondering if this could potentially be verified as legit posting |

You laughed but my offer still stands. It is not like we rebuild these daily and the shops that do, have them all ready. All about supply and demand. Rarity has very little to factor in, if people do not need the tool every day.
And at your current price I can do a lot of other things, including buying a larger Lathe and Mill to make the pieces I would need to set the pinion depth in a 901. Your kit is only saving people time and mental energy. This forum has a few guys that rebuild transmissions as a side hustle, no one is doing it day in day out to make a living. For a twice used tool in my lifetime, it is still to high of a price. And the horseshoe method of marking the pinion and running it through its paces will work, it is just not German Precise. While That is all well and good, and I love it, sometimes I can live with being 0.002 to 0.008 off on a setting. Factory listed tolerances for a reason. Nice, but expensive. When I bought mine, I had to gather the rest of the parts to work with 915 and 901 transmissions. Snap-On sells most of the parts required new. The main bar has a cam that will eventually break. Not sure of the availability of spare cams. I think someone in Europe was making replacements.
Mine works great. Good luck with the sale! |
