I have a 1.7 dual-carbed set up and I'm getting ready to change my facet fuel pump for a CMB rotary fuel pump. The PO moved the fuel filter to the top of the engine for ease of access, but my new CMB pump has one installed at the pump that is "supposed" to remain or the 1-yr warranty is invalidated.

Is it a problem to leave both filters in place or will that create too much pressure drop. I'm trying to do the pump switch-out without having to cut / re-plumb the fuel hosing.

Also, is it better to have the fuel filter between the tank and pump or between the pump and carbs?

The filter should be before the pump. I'd say remove the one in the engine bay.

Change the crimped clamps and short piece of hose on the filter to pump. New short piece of fuel line and stock shouldered clamps. Imho the second filter between the pump and carbs is not needed if you start with a clean fuel tank and a NEW in tank mesh/filter sock. Rotary914 usually has the socks and fiber washers in stock.

Thanks for response fellas. I figured that was going to be the answer. Guess I need to get some fuel line so I can remove the second filter.

I don’t think there is any hurry. I’ve been running the rotary pump & filter up front with 2 more filters in the engine compartment for about 5 years now. I agree fuel filters are not recommended in the engine compartment and will remove mine the next time I change the fuel hoses.
