My mechanic said my brake lights are on all the time, I did not notice this before until he mentioned it to me, he ONLY had time for the electronic ignition install, lots of cars there to work on he said. Anyone have some steps, things I can start with on correcting this?

While you're down there, check for brake fluid leakage out of Master Cylinder. Not uncommon for it to leak. Brake fluid swells the OEM plastic pivot bushings and pedal return gets to be like molasses. Another quick check is to hook your foot under the brake pedal and pull back toward you. If that turns off the lights, you've got a sticky pedal. Also give a quick check to your taillamp plastic housings. Lights that are stuck on have a way of melting the housing above the bulb. I've seen them melt a hole. Hopefully you're not that far gone. |

I did look at it today when I was down there checking the indicator lights for the fan/defrost assembly 3 are now working but the last right bottom indicator is not, tried new bulbs and pulling out the tiny wire leads on the bulbs but it appears that the one socket might be bad. Anyway back to the brake lights staying on when the key is on, I took these pictures and it looks like 4 nuts need to come off and then I think the board will come off around the gas pedal to get to the brake light switch. First pictures show 3 nuts left and center, second pic shows one nut right of the gas pedal. Does that look right probably just these 4 nuts ??

to remove the pedal board? just the 2 allen bolts left center and far right that holds it to the floor. You may also just need to loosen the upper left clutch pedal stopper to give more room when removing the board from the pedals.

Take the pedal pads offf too.
Center console ? might need to move that. You're looking for a small metal arm that must rest on a washer on the brake push rod. I'll bet the small arm is not positioned to rest on the washer. Push the brake pedal down a bit and bend the arm so it rests on the washer. Check your work. |

brake light switch FIXED, THANKS SO MUCH to the group who helped and the doc with very helpful information on this. The actuator WAS not aligned to the washer, not it is and now the brake lights work normally. These forums, this one and pelican are SO HELPFUL, saving me stress, work and money. One more question the clutch bottoming plate was missing the rubber piece and I looked but could not find it down there. Can I buy this piece without buying the whole plate see picture.
