Looks like an unmolested original car with great potential.
Door gaps look good, early "square" rear bumper a great plus, untouched engine bay...keep us posted. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

Then it appears that the seller is a good guy and you aren’t getting screwed. This is great news. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

My orange 3.6 six was originally a 1974 2.0. The only original six I've had was the Irish Green one and didn't crash that one! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I have owned 5 other 914s including another 1970 1.7. I know it's weird, but I like the early 1.7 cars. -Steve I love all 1.7s, my first was a '73, my first 914, my first Porsche, my first new car, bought it new in 1973 right out of high school for a car to commute to college 60 miles away. It was Sunflower Yellow, but I wanted Irish Green, no regrets though, other than I wish it was still in my garage, but we all say that it seems. |

I have hopes for this one.
Original owner? Assuming the guy bought it at 25 years old, he'd be 76? now. My father is in that age range and sometimes email & other communication technology are just more than he wants to deal with. |

I think I've seen enough of that guy and his one-owner car. There is a man that looks to be in his 70's standing in the background on a couple of the pictures, since that came up earlier in the thread. I would avoid this one and find something else, everyone can make their own conclusions as they please of course. https://www.ebay.com/itm/363474274524?hash=...7oAAOSwhuBg14A1 |

I have no idea about the owner of the car other than he agreed to make the car available for inspection and he did. He actually met me at the car and gave me the keys and allowed me to look at it as long as I wanted. He did not come across as "shady" to me. The bottom line is Steve will either buy the car or not. Hoping Steve lets us know if he buys or passes on the 914. If it's truly a Gemini Blue 914, would be so neat to reshoot and get it back to the original color.

It looks like jaeph-84 (the seller) is no longer a register user of eBay and all three of his auctions for this car have been completely removed from eBay. His new Craig's List ad has also been taken down. This could be a good thing or a bad thing, or maybe mean nothing at all I suppose.

Does this guy even remember he has already sold the car? …seller was probably expecting buyer to "flake out" on him, so kept car listed. I bet the deal went down and seller "finally" stopped listing the car.... a quick edit....over the past 15 or 16 years, I've seen more flakey buyers than shady sellers. we do tend to hate the shady guys (for good reason), and forgive the flakey ones |

As a seller, it's not sold until you get the cash.
I "sold" a 911 roller on ebay yesterday. The ad is only two sentences and one says it's a roller without engine and trans. Guy "buys' it and then asks me if I will include the engine and trans for the same price. I said no and he cancels the "sale". |

People also don't read, or look at pictures, I routinely have people ask if they can fly in and drive a car home, a car like this...I tell them it better be downhill, the whole way home. Might not buff out! but these days even this poor 356 will bring crazy $$. OP sounds as though he is not a rookie. Make the trip to see the car with a check in your pocket. I don't think 12K is too much to ask for sure if it is straight and unmolested and hope one of our guys got it.
I know this because my original blue plate CA 1.7 car went for a lot more than that and that was three years ago. Used car business is crazy right now...my 2018 95B I could sell now for more than I bought it for. Lookin hard at 993's now. Keep us posted what happens. |

Hi everyone,
Not a very exciting or great update from me - I'm passing on the car. The seller was just way too difficult to work with. Very atypical transaction especially if he has recently sold several other of his grandfather's cars. A potentially fun purchase and project was turning into a lot of not fun and hassle. The car does exist and while I still haven't seen it in person from Michael's description it does sound like a nice car worth saving. And there are some strange title/history/owner's name/missing paperwork stories that really need to be understood by the future buyer to be comfortable with the purchase. If someone pursues it I'd proceed with extra caution and patience. -Steve |

Darn. Sorry to hear that. He seemed fine when I was talking with him. I wonder if it could be a cultural issue as they are not originally from the USA. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)
