Wow Kent! I completely missed your thread. Looks like you started when I was taking a bit of a break from the forum. It was a treat to discover and catch up. Great work going on here. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welder.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif)

Good progress Kent. IIRC humidity isn’t much of an issue where you are, but any concerns about leaving in bare metal too long? Hey Josh, first let me say that I'm sorry that I missed you when you broke down on your return trip from OR. I gladly would have assisted in any way I could have. It's a personal thing with me ever since 20 914's drove past me when I broke down in CO 11 years ago. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) Bare metal isn't an issue as long as I don't touch it. The acid in our sweat causes a lite layer of surface rust but it is very quickly sanded back down with a DA. It ain't nothing like TX was. In TX I avoided Lacquer Thinner since it caused bare metal to "flash rust". Seriously, rust would show up the same day if I used thinner to clean the metal. Great progress, looks like you are close to shooting some primer on it. Thx Pete. Hoping to put her in primer within the next 2-3 weeks. Currently I'm going over the little details I rushed past early on. This is what happens when I focus only on the big picture and forget about the small things. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welder.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) Hey thx Brett. Since I began this "back to stock" rebuild I've developed this facial twitch and a mild case of stuttering. The Doc said it should pass but that I should consider placing a Subaru decal in a descreet location should these symptoms get any worse. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) |

That should get should cure your twitch and create mass seizures for the rest of us. Saw your post on the class action thread. Priceless! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) |

It's been a few weeks since I got anything accomplished. The Heat Wave was brutal and finally passed. Then came the rains from the remnants of the Hurricane. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) Anyway, I changed plans and removed the paint from both sides of the trunk lids. I had convinced myself that the inside of the lids didn't need paint since the car basically hadn't been outside in years. Better minds prevailed and now that it's done I'm glad that I did it. It took about 3 days to strip sand and prep the inside of the front & rear lids plus the spare tire rim. I hope to begin shooting some primer this week, fingers crossed.
Four hours to remove 4 layers of paint/primer, grind/sand away "Fix-a-Flat" residue, and cut away the old steel belted tire. Awaiting primer. Here are the lids in no particular order. They're really nice lids and it's apparent with the paint removed. I've already been asked by a couple of neighbor's what I used to remove the paint. I told them ever tool that I own! So I covered the naked lass whilst my senses were still about. Crap, I forgot to take a pic of the bottom side of the engine lid. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) I'll get it later. That was a bitch to cover in primer. I'm glad that a Pro is shooting the paint.
While at the Junk Yard a few weeks ago I looked down and thought to myself, "I wonder". Sure enough it fits like it was made for the 914. The hold down bolt hole even lines up. The nice new batt tray is covered & as a bonus the ECU is protected from the battery. I have no idea what this piece of plastic came off of or what it's intended purpose was either. |

Me too Steven. Then I thought back to the guys polishing their old Cessna's while everyone else was flying and having a good time. Good to hear from you Bro. I saw your mini lathe. Interesting. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

Kent your work is nothing short of amazing. That is going to look so good in colour.
The cowl area and hell hole … well just fantastic. Sorry to hear of that adventure in Europe. Looking forward to more. |

Thanks Dion. Don't look too closely. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Dang it's been a long time since I updated this. I haven't progressed as quickly as I would have preferred but the car is finally in primer. I'll post some pics below but these things all look alike when stripped down to the bone. What remains is some filler, sanding, blocking it out, rinse & repeat until satisfied.

Primer!
(IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) Gotta mean the color coat is getting closer. Folks that tackle body work have my respect. Been there, done that in varying degrees of success and failure. These days I just reduce the size of my sons inheritance and have someone else do it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) |

Wow, almost 5 months since my last update. I thought I'd never get out of rehab. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) Seriously, we had almost 4 months of rain and the other days were just too crappy to consider working on the car. Then there was the NFL playoffs & putting Rt 66 together that took up the remainder of my time. But I'm back with a vengeance and the desire to have this thing ready for paint before we leave for Jolly Old England next month. Here are some pics from todays work. Both trunk lids & the entire left side are finished with the 1st of 2 block sanding's. The right side door, qtr panel, fender & cowl need some glazing and black sanding. IOW, another 8 hr's labor. After that another coat of high build primer, another round of block sanding followed up by a seal coat. That's the plan anyway. Of course my original plan, read daydream, was to be finished in 6-9 months. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)
