Tom,
Will the car get gt fenders or stay narrow body?
Matt

Not a lot of progress over the Holidays. I re-did the GT head light cables with bicycle derailer cables. Much smoother operation as compared to the hood release wires I had initially installed. Thanks to Mark Epstein for the tip.

I also installed the GT engine release cable and handle.

The car is now off to Auto Associates for the finishing work and completion.

Auto Associates will complete all the GT conversion work. This includes the balsa reinforced fiberglass GT front and rear hoods, GT rockers, front and rear valences and metal GT flares and final paint. They will also finish the interior with sound deadening, carpet, the GT roll bar and the GT door panels.

Progress update - The final phase of work has started at Auto Associates. The steel GT flares have been installed along with the front and rear GT valences. The plan is for them to work steady with the goal of completion in time for summer driving.

Something funny about the fit of the Hella TN 4 fogs in the valence. They seem to be too big. I thought the TN 4's were correct. What am I missing?

Looking good Tom. I will be interested to see detail on how they fit the rocker covers and blend them into the fenders. Are they using glass or steel? Mine need some love.

And your front bumper to fender fit is one of the best I've seen. Assume that bumper is glass and has been cut to fit.

Hi John

The valences and rockers are all fiberglass. Nothing ever fits without some finessing. Kenny and the guys at Auto Associates are experts at this. I'll be posting more photos as the work continues.

Any idea why they cut the rear flares in half?

That is a good question, Ben. I am sure it has something to do with the overall fit and centering the flare on the rear hub. I'll try to remember to ask Kenny next time I am up there.

Regarding my own question on the front fog lights...

The Hella TN 4 was an option on the early cars. They have a lens diameter of 110 mm. I am guessing that the valence will need to be trimmed to fit the fog light.

You can see that the whole opening has not yet been cut. Some of the FG bumpers come with the grill openings filled.

Mine came without fog grills and I like the look.
I can't tell you the source, I got them from an abandoned project.
They came without brackets. I fabed them from aluminum.
I've since gotten one with fogs and will soon try euro yellow fogs.
Tom your car is coming along beautifully...maybe we meet at the Greenwich Concours ?

I wonder if they just were marking the center to line up on the car, then they rollock buzzed the permanent marker off. So there's actually no cut there.

They wouldn't have cut the flare in half hopefully.

Why would they grind down that section? I don’t know but I would not expect them to grind that spot just to mark with sharpie. My guess is they shrunk that spot on both rears

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif)
If someone used a power tool to remove Sharpie! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/new_shocked.gif)
That would be the END for me!
To create MORE smoothing work for something that required B12 and a paper towel.
Not a snowball's chance in hell anyone's touching the car...

Now, someone using power tool to properly fit my flairs.

I'll be up in your face as well! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ninja.gif)

Asking questions and learning!

I talked with Ken about this today. The flares were not cut. The marking was only to locate and position the centerline.
