Is Aase still offering the VIN stickers? Waiting to hear back. And also trying to convince carbone due to everything @wonkipop just mentioned, but the language barrier and time difference have made for slow going. |

And also trying to convince carbone due to everything @wonkipop just mentioned, but the language barrier and time difference have made for slow going. keep trying. from what i hear its porsche thats been aggressive about its "trademarks" out there in aftermarket restorer land. they went beserk on trademarks back in the early 90s as well. sounds like they are still doing. probably cracking down on all the early 911 guys with their repro vin stickers for their ultra valuable early 911s. joke is porsche themselves won't or can't sell you one of these vin stickers themselves. bit of a bastard thing to do if it is them. meanwhile we do not have porsche vin stickers on our cars. exactly the same as yer beetle, yer bus, yer thing, yer ghia whatever. volkswagenwerk. just different wieghts listed. rest of it is the same as a VW vin sticker from 74. ask carbone if they do VW vin stickers for 74. if they say yes then tell them the 914 sticker is the same and its a VW vin not a porsche vin. VW cannot be bothered with this sort of legal pursuit stuff as far as know. it does not really meddle with its vintage fan base. why would they bother. its porsche that is super uptight about all this stuff. unnecessarily so in my humble opinion. good luck. |

Not sure about copyright in Poland or EU but IIRC in U.S. it’s 27 years unless renewed. Just because someone claims copyright doesn’t mean it is. Besides, no copryright notice or symbol on sticker so no copyright claimed.

Don't think that is accurate. Authors life+70 years for copyright protection. https://copyrightalliance.org/faqs/how-long...er%2070%20years. that is correct - strictly speaking. except it has been tested in australia and you have to be making use of your copyrighted design. if you have ceased to make use of it, or trade with it, or produced the copyrighted product, or have refused or declined to make the product it moves into interesting territory where your copyright may not be protected. the fact that neither VW or Porsche produce these exact Vin sticker designs anymore puts them in territory that possibly is not defensible. however you would need money to test that i imagine if faced with porsche going the tonk. it is interesting that both VW and Porsche used an identical design Vin sticker more or less. while being separate companies. i suspect the design belongs to neither but rather is a commissioned part from a supplier company. i still think that if there is a copyright issue it is likely that porsche is the instigator. and likely its over this. the inclusion of this trading name as the manufacturer. no mention of porsche on our vin stickers. only Volkswagen AG. |
