PMB cover for the 2258 motors he's building. These covers have led lights under them so they will light up.

That seems like a nice piece, but I don't like the trend to cover mechanicals.
Once upon a time, people who know and like cars would eagerly open engine lids to see all the goodies. Sure, make things tidy and even tarted-up a bit, but show what you got. Now almost every car from every brand has plastic covers. Open their lids and see nothing besides another inner lid. |

I am sorry to say it, but I agree with Bob on this one. Make all the lines and wires nice and tidy, plate all of the appropriate hardware like new, and let the world see and enjoy it. I would want it to look as if it just left the Porsche factory. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Knowing the high level of knowledge and expertise of PMB, I'm sure they've done the research, but personally I wouldn't put anything over my engine that looks like it could possibly cause it to retain more heat.

The engine covers are protecting the coil packs. Not sure if they are protecting other electronics as well.
I'm not 100% sure I'm keen on having a cover - I usually take them off even new cars. But since the covers are giving a benefit... I'm really looking forward to getting mine. Zacj |

Zach are you suggesting the coil pak is intended to go *under* the that cover?

Not a fan of decorative engine covers. I remove all mine.
And my personal experience with an electronic coil (VW IGN4) mounted close to the Type 4 block (where the disty was) in my street car was not positive; it was overheating and cutting out. I had to move it to on top of the fan housing. Same with COPs mounted in the spark plug valley of a Toyota 4AGE race car; we had to go to remote-mounted LS2 coils because they were overheating and cutting out. |

They are already. If you look at some of the pics from RRC and FI discussions you will see the 4 pack of coils under where the cover will go. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yikes.gif) |

The trend is to have a cover if it was not there originally and to remove the cover if it came with one (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif)
