Wing has been on this car for a while….but my son prefers something a bit more conservative. As I evaluate it, height may be a bit much.
In reference to roof, where should it be. Not constrained by any rules…. Anyone with knowledge or experience able to help? Front has Sheridan design damn/ spoiler. Thanks… |

Didn't someone post awhile back that the low mounted spoilers didn't have much effect since they weren't in the slip stream. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Higher of course is better but you need check the rules of whatever class you're running in. There maybe a limit on how high it can be.

Wing height is a complex thing, but in general (and within reason) higher is better, especially on a car like a 914 that has relatively poor aerodynamics. Yours is probably at a good height.
There can be some advantage in a lower mounted wing on a car with underbody aero (a diffuser). Not relevant for you. See my avatar. I do have a large diffuser on my car, and mounted the wing low to allow it to interact with the diffuser. |

Johnny from 9lives racing just built me one for my car. I haven't installed it yet so i don't have any pictures.
I plan on squeezing it in between the trunk and the fenders. It will mount to the back of the fenders in the trunk. I'll add pics when I get there. |

Dont use this upright template. It appears to be racked back. No real adjustment for downforce. I dont blame 9lives racing, it was my poor template i sent him.

Please keep us posted…
Will the rear deck lid operate on the factory hinges or will you have it on pins? |

Depends what you are using it for. This is my autocrossing setup. Slightly above the highest part of your car. It's all about balancing the front and rear, unless you don't give a hoot about steering. This thing does ok despite the grumpy old man at the wheel.

Somewhere I have a picture of mine at 1609. But I have plans to lose a little more. I'm going on a search for the pic. The gas tank is empty but it only holds 1.5 gallons.
I have on hand RSR front suspension but I ran out of money again and presently working on getting new nitrogen gas shocks. I have a pair on a sand rail that I built in '91 that are still holding up the buggy. I really like the exchange, iron suspension for billet aluminum and gas. |

Ok, bit of a hijack, sorry but this is the right group. Here is my question: At what speed do these wings become effective. My car will see autocross and some spirited excursions in the canyons. So not high speeds. 50-60-ish mph. Thanks and now we will return you to your regularly scheduled program. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Starting to provide down force at 50-60, serious at 100 and above.
Almost nothing at 30... Front splitters work sooner and are usually more effective. A small splitter will need a BIG ASS wing to balance the car. At the speeds you're running a spoiler at a serious angle would be my first choice. Like this https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/articles/...ps-aero-expert/ A large high angle spoiler has serious drag. Below 80 it's the ticket IMO. It looks ghetto but gets the job done and can be stupid simple to make. You can change the angle/length at will. A true rear wing works like an aircraft wing upside down and needs clean air more on the bottom than top, so it needs to be higher than anything that might affect the flow across the bottom of it. The wing will provide a better "down force to drag ratio" but is really best suited for 100+ speeds. Above 100 the spoiler becomes a HUGE drag versus a wing. |

So something like cab plates on the back of an inboard. |
