What do y'all use for engine stands??? / bracket??? I like the one from VW alley but can't seem to find any source. Seen some nice ones for $600 bucks but that's not in the budget. The 2 eared ones don't seem they would provide enough support. Thanks for the help.

I used an expensive engine bracket from sierra madre https://sierramadrecollection.com/products/...30-50-89-p27127 and a very inexpensive stand from China Freight. (Big red one) What do y'all use for engine stands??? I like the one from VW alley but can't seem to find any source. Seen some nice ones for $600 bucks but that's not in the budget. The stand or the cradle or both? There is a guy an Samba that sells a cradle he makes, for 4s, 6s or both. You can discuss with him.. You will need to match the yoke diameter size to the engine stand size as they vary by the weight capacity of the stand.

Buy the good one, your going to be hanging a 25M engine on it. Or borrow one from some one in the club by you. I have mine lent out to Kelly-moss where I work part time. At the end you can sell it for what you Paid. Best, Mark

We get a metal guy to make ours. Harbor freight is probably ok for a four but super sketchy for a six. I don’t want a $40k engine to take a nosedive if I run over a cord.

Make sure the stand has 4 wheels NOT 3 or you will find the engine on the floor. Ask me how I know.

Mine is heavy, I asked Jerry Woods 20 years ago at his engine building class if I could copy his engine stand. He told me to go ahead. So I'll share this again if anyone wants to have a good one welded up. I had three made back then. This will easily hold a 930 turbo engine. Mark E. share this with your fab guy he might want to use a few ideas. Best, Mark

I bought a 4-arm yoke engine mount for our 356 engine and put it on a harbor freight stand. Then I got gifted a running engine stand with a starter ring and control box from Zalex Industries. After assembly, I transferred the engine to this. FWIW - Zalex is Tom Perazzo of Garage Time YouTube channel. He's good folk. |

Been waiting for a while, as I need one, but the Samba/vintageworldtools guy who makes the great engine yoke for a great price has been shut down for a while. Ad was changed "to closed for health reasons" until either the end of August or September, now changed to "inactive".
Hoping all goes well, whatever it is! |

Get a $100.00 HF 1000 lbs engine stand (or the HD stand for $200) and a P201 Porsche engine fixture. I have this setup and no issues at all holding the weight of a 6 engine. Going on 3 six rebuilds with my setup. Again no issues and all for under $400. I purchased a once used P201 fixture on PP.

Luke - it will work, and obviously you did, but it’s so much nicer to work on a stand that’s really stable and solid. Having room under the stand for a 1k hf lift table is priceless. |

I'm with Mark on this. Glad that worked for you Luke, but that scares the crap out of me. Just the quality of the steel and or the welds is questionable and not sure that the design is broad enough for the wide 911 engine fully dressed.

Here is his email, try that. I bought mine in Feb of this year.
Kevin Kraum <vwalley1.com@gmail.com> And a couple of notes he sent me. The 2-arm yoke is for the type I VW and 356 Porsche engines, the 3-arm yoke is built for the VW type IV engines, including the waterboxer and Porsche 912/914 and the 4/5 arm yokes are for the Porsche 6-cylinder engines. All will interchange, but I don’t recommend a three arm with the additional weight/length of the 6-cylinder engines. |

This is a RAT 2270 fresh Eng. Mark and I are working on, the Cradle is a EMPI type and the Stand Is a Harbor Freight brand. Seems plenty strong for a 4. If you are just doing 4s it will save you lots of money. I have not heard of a failure from these.

You won’t regret it. |
