Mine is heavy, I asked Jerry Woods 20 years ago at his engine building class if I could copy his engine stand. He told me to go ahead. So I'll share this again if anyone wants to have a good one welded up. I had three made back then. This will easily hold a 930 turbo engine. Mark E. share this with your fab guy he might want to use a few ideas. Best, Mark Wow that is awesome. Probably a bit overkill, but I may be going in this direction. My cheapie HF works for a /4, but not for my fresh /6. With a 20k investment why chance it. Looks simple to weld up, looks like a few hours. or, the HF stand for a hundred bucks looks substantial |

Also have a couple stationary stands. Not as practical as the mobile ones but can be useful

We have five of these and I just ordered 3 more. @mepstein I'm getting ready to drop the engine in my 930 and need a stand and yoke. What is it you're ordering? Also you mentioned on another thread about a HF lift to drop the engine with. I see a couple of motorcycle lifts. Is that what you were referring to? |

I use a HF motorcycle lift, with a simple plywood cradle for the engine and trans.

Also you mentioned on another thread about a HF lift to drop the engine with. I see a couple of motorcycle lifts. Is that what you were referring to? I get the yoke and clamp from Don at EBS/engine building supply. He’s out of them right now but should have more soon. I’m waiting on 3 sets. Harbor Freight 1,000lb lift cart. They’ve gotten more expensive over the years. I think it’s up to $350 now, not on sale, but absolutely the one to buy. We have four of them and they get used everyday. They also make a great portable work area. Drop the engine and trans onto the cart, pull the trans, lift the engine onto the engine stand. With a two post lift, hf lift table and the engine stand like I pictured, one person can do the drop in about an hour. Without the wide base legs to slide a lift table between, it would be a pain to mount or dismount an engine from a stand. You can use a strap and hang it from the lift arms but a wide, stable base is really nice for a heavy engine. |

If you are on a budget...
https://www.ssaircooled.com/empi-vw-engine-...escription=true I'm using this stand for an engine I'm tearing down (just be careful) I'm using a Harbor Freight 4 wheel with a separately purchased 3 arm yoke for the engine I'm building up, very sturdy. |

If you go the way of the Harbor Freight stand, you will need to confirm that the diameter of the yoke's pipe will sleeve into the Stand's receiving pipe. I have one Harbor Freight that has a different size receiver that the yoke won't fit into!

Is this the motorcycle lift you're talking about?
PITTSBURGH AUTOMOTIVE1500 lb. Aluminum ATV / Motorcycle Lift Looked for the P201 Porsche engine fixture and PP is out of them. Looks like the SMC engine stand is in stock. Not sure about the yoke size though. Attached image(s) |

I see this engine stand on ebay:
Engine Holder Stand mount adapter Heavy Duty Version for Porsche 911 Motor engin @ctc911ctc If you still have your SMC engine stand, would you be able to measure the yoke diameter? The one above on ebay is 2.35 inches. |

Zalex Industries make a nice test stand setup. I built a frame and had this mounted to one. Works like a champ.

That dimension is for 2 inch schedule 40 pipe that they use for the yoke.

Just heard back from Christine at VintageWorldTools - VWalley a.k.a. the Samba engine stand adapters. Kevin Kraum will no longer be building his wonderful product.
