For those who have repaired wire harnesses in their 914, is there a vendor who sells all the different color combinations? And, what is the best way to label the wires?
TIA! |

Restoration Design makes new harnesses and will sell the correct color bare wire. The wires are already labeled with colors but you can buy little plastic zip ties with a tag on Amazon if that’s what you mean.

Do you need a new harness? If not, do you only need pieces of an old harness? If this is the case, then you can borrow my old harness, do your surgery, & then return it. CTTOI, you can keep the damn thing because I don't need it anymore. I've long since restored my wiring & it's now right on. PM me. It's yours for free & I'll even cover the shipping. Ergo less stuff in the garage.

For labeling I write on a roll of skinny blue tape (Home Depot), clean wire with B12, rip of tape and tape directly to wire.
I'd prefer the tags on strings or zip ties, they just don't stay on as well as the blue tape. Make the label easy enough to understand so a different person could re-assemble. @windforfun offer is killer! You should take him up on that if you need large sections. I would pay for shipping if I was in your shoes! I'd include enough to buy him some adult beverages... I think he likes them! My goal is to basically recreate the harness using the stock wire color I've been there and done that on my brothers 6 conv. I ended up modifying his wire harness along the way. Moved fuel pump up front, removed relay board in engine bay, removed inter lock start relay, and couple other things to run fans behind his oil cooler. Hope you have a good 2 weeks free to do it. I went through the harness and wrote down the color combos/size. I ordered the proper size and color wires needed. Don't forget to order new terminal ends and tape as well. Did you know they made heat shrink tube for label makers? Its the best stuff for wiring. Time will tell if the ink stays on, but for the past year it been really helpful. Zach |

That is freaking cool! It's a requirement when all of the wires are white. Most motorhomes are wired WHITE (but don't have the cool little labels!). Makes it an ABSOLUTE BITCH to diagnose wiring issues... Hundreds of white wires under the dash. They will also have ground strips in them very similar to what you find in your house circuit breaker box. The grounds are white too! I've seen those first on this forum. That way is SO much better than anything else I've seen before! Doesn't work if you're looking to appear stock... |

best to just buy a used 914 harness, (they are plentiful) and use it for parts For those who have repaired wire harnesses in their 914, is there a vendor who sells all the different color combinations? And, what is the best way to label the wires? TIA! I acquired one for free with free shipping! |
