Greetings and happy 4th!

Sent an email to Brad Mayer to see if he recognized the MPS since he did a lot of the work on this car before my ownership.

He wrote back saying: "That MPS was rebuilt by John Lazar using the diaphragm sold by Chris at Tangerine
Racing."

He's also sending me the "file" on my car since he's shutting down 914 LTD. I'll check in there to see if there are any other notes - but there ya go.

Respectfully, I don’t think the diaphragm is from Tangerine.

I wondered that as well - perhaps an early version? ( @ChrisFoley )
When I get the file, i'll see if there is any indication as to when this was done but I'm guessing it was maybe 10 years ago?

Anyone know John Lazar?

The diaphragm is an early one, just like the far left one in Jeff Bowlsby's picture. Maybe someone added the spacer. I'm guessing the differently staked hub assemblies were just how the factory made them at first.

Back when I was tuning a specific car with a 2.4 liter to remain on Diet, I did learn a lot about the MPSs that exist, and did some parts swapping....I still have all of the iterations I tried..

I believe the diaphragms where the key difference...especially the Mercedes ones that reached up to 2.6/7 liters...

The Volvo one seems a bit less bumpy/ridgy if I recall, so less ridges.

When we had no spare parts...yah we stripped what we could find and made it work...with AF measurements and reading plugs as we went along....worked fine.

I still have the Diet inline tester box...

Bottom line..its not at all out of range to see a diaphragm from one MPS in another body....it was the only choice available at that time.

Good to know, Chris - thank you.
I believe the spacer was/is part of the procedure to adapt a 1.7 MPS to use on a 2.0.

Does anyone have a use for this model - either as-is or after being rebuilt w the Tangerine kit? Personally, I don’t as I have a good one installed and also a backup.

If it’s a good diaphragm I’d try to calibrate it and see if it works. I have no reason to believe it won’t work for all applications.

Quick question. What is the right position of the 2.0 Spacer?

A. Between the membrane and the Part-Load Stop plate?
(As this will increase the possible movement of the membrane – if I am correct?)

B. Or between the membrane and the housing?
(Why would you really need this as you can adjust the full stop screw)

Was going down the wormhole on the history of my 914 and found this picture related the 041 MPS that didn't want to play nice with my 123 install.

The MPS in question has very distinctive orange paint marking the screws - as seen earlier in this thread.

Look what I found from a post by the previous owner (Will Lutman) here on 914 World.

See that orange paint on the MPS on the left of the frame?
That's from when he picked it up from Brad Mayeur at 914 LTD in Peoria when he was pulling together parts to build the 2.0.

Amazing what's "out there" and I can now confirm that it was rebuilt right around Nov 6, 2005 - the date that's in the picture metadata.
