Does the felt washer go between the crank & flywheel or between the clutch & flywheel? Can't find that info in Vol 3 of the manuals. TIA, Kent

Yes, Install the pilot bearing in the flywheel, the felt washer on top of that, then the big O-ring inside the flywheel on the other side. Then you can install the flywheel onto the crankshaft, and install a new multi-hole washer over the felt washer and install new flywheel bolts. These bolts are a stretch type that is supposed to be used only once. The mess that occurs if the flywheel gets loose is horrid; BTDT & expensive.

There is no sealing ring on the 914-6, as it has a different pilot bearing (901-102-025-01)? |

TIA, Kent As having just done this, the felt washer sits in between the 5 hole washer, and per the FSM it is to be lubricated with a small amount of oil before assembly. The felt washer is 3.2mm thick hence the 3.2mm seating depth (measured from the pilot bearing hole to the pilot bearing on the transmission side of the flywheel) for the pilot bearing. As for a -6 according to the PET (factory parts catalogue) the felt washer is part of the pilot bearing assembly parts 4, 5 and 6. Attached thumbnail(s)  Attached image(s)

Thanks for all of the good input guys. I knew about oiling the felt washer but had forgotten the location. Also, leave the plastic pilot shaft in place until the flywheel bolts have been torqued down. Otherwise you won't get the pilot shaft to slide in because the washer compress' and its ID decreases.
