Life's been good to me so far..... Group: Admin Posts: 15,879 Joined: 11-September 03 From: Hurst, TX. Member No.: 1,143 Region Association: NineFourteenerVille |
This is completely unacceptable to me. I was brought up in a car family, and was going to swap meets and car shows from an early age. I learned real quick I could look, and say anything, ask any question, or make any comment. But I was taught to keep my hands linked behind my back so there was no possible way I could touch anything. I still do this to this day.
We were at the 24 hours of Daytona the year Patrick Dempsey had his Lola P2 car in the race. It was on the grid with all the other cars so the spectators could see it. When they went to start it for the race, it wouldn't start. Some spectator had turned the electrical cutoff switch off. They almost didn't make the race because of it. I am always happy to let young kids sit in our 914s when we have them at shows. Gotta get them hooked young so the 914 doesn't die. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) But I am always standing there and give permission. If the kid is touching the car without permission, I will not let them sit in it. |

Be fortunate you were taught, many young kids/adults do not have basic teaching on how to live in society. It's all about me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) |

It is the ONLY time I ever do this. It reminds me to resist the URGE! I've found the phrase "May I?" works KICK ASS when I really want to touch something. I've run a "wallet vampire" (Tool salesmen) clean ass out of the shop because they couldn't resist touching a big block Cobra replica (the one on my website). This car had a 50K inlaid paint job (Stupid!) and my customer was "particular". I was a thermo-nuclear WOLF! Hopefully I cured him of his proclivities! |

Well it happened again, we locked at 914, and one of the many lookers came by and grabbed the door latch and gave it a body slam pull trying to open it.
This is why we leave the cars unlocked and HOPE that respecful people ONLY visit our 914 display Just had to chase a guy away who without asking was out on our lot opening all of the doors, decklids, and sitting in our customers' 914s! Our dear accountant witnessed the abuse from her office perspective and reported it to us. Pretty bad when someone has no respect for other peoples' property! We deeply respect our customers' cars and take good care of them while they are here for service and restoration, and do not tolerate those who come on the lot and disrespect them. Guy started to say how he owned a 914 years ago etc etc etc, but I did not want to hear it! |

You’re too kind. Seriously. Now it’s too much of feckin’ hassle to go ask, wait patiently, politely to view something. Why would any person familiar with a 914 reef on a door handle because the door might not open?

If I knew who did that, I'd make them PAY for a NOS flawless door handle and install at "I don't like you at all" rates. I'd be worried about how the owner of that car felt... Brand new perfection would satisfy most folks IMO. |

People no longer have even the most basic of manners or respect for other people’s property. |

Might be that average everyday people just look at vehicles/ special build vehicles as furniture or appliances; just there for the utility use, abuse, throw away and go get another mentality...even if it's not theirs to do so. Respect for another's property and hard work that goes into a project car these days ¿¿ Next time you're at an auto show...watch some of the people clowning around and abusing the cars on display (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)
There is a current TV ad for an Rx "Wegovy" that cracks me up, and hurts to see somebody's '69 blue Plymouth (Satellite or R/Runner) victim of abuse. Two guys working on a hose clamp, when done the older dude just drops his toolbox on top of the right fender (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) No respect for the car, and hopefully the owner that rented it to the producers was reimbursed for damages. |
