Maybe this thread belongs in the marketplace but since I'm trying to give it away, I thought this might get more eyeballs and land in the "right" place to help someone and allow me to "give back" to the World.
Admins - please move it if you see fit. The deal: one free 0280100041 MPS The catch: see this thread and educate yourself before you commit: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...p;#entry3153135 TLDR: Unit is an 041 and has obviously been cracked open - before my time. It's marked with a Sharpie "74-76 2.0" which I believe is incorrect and should be for a 71-72 1.7. Maybe this accounts for the opening and potential adjustment. Currently holds 15in pretty much indefinitely and I get 93ohms between pins 7 and 15, and 344ohms between pins 8 and 10. All that seems pretty much right on - but it would NOT start after changing out my stock distributor to a 123. Prior to the 123, it ran "fine" but then started running warm due to a distributor vacuum issue (more in another thread) Distributor was an 011 with a Pertronix Igniter II. Installed a "correct" 043 MPS and it fired right up and works great with the 123. IF THIS UNIT WOULD BE HELPFUL TO YOU IN ITS CURRENT STATE, SAY THE WORD AND IT'S YOURS. I would advise getting a new diaphragm for it from Tangerine Racing/ @ChrisFoley It is currently in the possession of @rjames and would ship from there (the NW) and he MAY be able to be convinced to do a diaphragm install and bench calibration but that would be additional costs and would be between you and @rjames . |

Ill take it if no one else wants it. I have the tools, equipment, and know how to fix and re-tune it to spec.
and with 3 of my 914s still running d-jet spares are nice to have. |

Been a few years since I've been here, fellow 'Teeners.
I'm in the middle of a "nuclear war" - style divorce. Rob Arabian (God bless him) basically assembled/installed the drivetrain in my 1973 1.7 (in 2 very hot days!) which has literally been in boxes since I bought it years ago (and which has to be sold immediatly as my home has been in default nearly a year). . . I have a fairly short list of parts needed (I'll start a thread), but the dealbreaker now (besides near destitution-lol) is the fact that the soon-to-be ex apparently threw out my perfectly tested mps (with bracket) and my less than perfect core. If this one can be set up for a 1973 1.7l, please let me know. |

@JamesM - since my goal was to 'give back' I'm wondering if you would be open to letting this go to @MM1 to help him get going as opposed to holding it as a spare? @rjames - thoughts on this being configured for a 73 1.7? Outside of tuning it, all that should be needed to convert it back to a 1.7 MPS would be to remove the 2.0 spacer, which I'll happily do before I ship it out to it's new owner. No problem at all. Just wanted to throw my hat in the ring as an alternative to throwing it away. and you should have no issue setting it up for a 73 1.7 but i would recommend replacing the diaphragm first. I actually have a low miles unopened 73 1.7 MPS in my 1.7 car right now. If someone wanted to get that out here with a new diaphragm in it I could clone the curve on the factory unit. What I do I think is the only way to get an accurate sensor off a bench calibration. requires a good MPS that you want to match the rebuilt MPS to and has to be done side by side to account for any atmospheric changes that would affect past readings. Basically T up both sensors to the same vacuum source so they are holding identical vacuum. Then use a quality inductance meter, take a reading of the good sensor and adjust the new sensor to match. Then bleed down the vacuum slightly and repeat all the way to zero vacuum. Then run though the process a couple more times to ensure they maintain a match though the entire sweep. This method eliminates all the variables in setting up a rebuilt sensor. |

I have an LCR 55 meter, so if we know the specs, we can match it. I have Tangerine's tool kit as well.
@MM1 if you can get the diaphragm replaced we can bench calibrate it or whomever rebuilds the diaphragm can do it. @JamesM - since my goal was to 'give back' I'm wondering if you would be open to letting this go to @MM1 to help him get going as opposed to holding it as a spare? @rjames - thoughts on this being configured for a 73 1.7? Gentlemen, I truly appreciate you kind generosity.
Robert reserrected my 914 after decades of slumber yesterday! Therefore I now have no need for the MPS. Buttoning up a few things before my "newly-living" old 914, sadly, must be sold. Thank you to all the 'Teeners who guided me, and who sold me all these parts!! -Marcus |

@MM1 - great news that it's back - nice work! If you're passing, I guess it goes back to @JamesM - are you still in need? If so, I'm good with setting it up as you wish and keeping as a backup. If @rjames is still game, reach out to him and coordinate. I could always use a backup. No need to change anything I have all the tools and equipment to properly clone settings on an MPS. |
