Probably saved a few bucks in production. I know my 75' doesn't have it.
Interesting indeed! |

On a somewhat related note. If you no longer have a rear trunk release button and use only a cable release, then the cable breaks. Can you take the hinges off so you can get to the latch with a set of extensions to remove the bolts so you can remove the trunk lid and fix the problem? Asking for a friend.
We've done this before a long time ago by pushing in one of the plastic cups and using a bunch of extensions. It seems like it might be easier to take the fasteners off the hinges and then hold the front part of the trunk lid open to get at the latch. Ideas? |

Always thought that all year 914s had a loop for the trunk hinge rods, but just saw that the 74-76 cars do not!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) and i would have thought all of em didn't have a loop like mine. its a jan 74. but i don't get to look at many 914s down here in north antarctica. could it have something to do with shifting the charcoal cannister into the engine bay? do the rods adopt a slightly different position without the loop? asking because if that is the case maybe the changeover is when they move the can from the frunk which is in nov 73. mindless minutia asked by an L jet nutter. Maybe the guys on the assembly line got better at installing the torsion bars, and stopped worrying about getting hit in the face. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif)

@dr914@autoatlanta.com
is it just my imagination? or did they also change the latch reinforcement pressing from 73 to 74. minutia. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) i just checked my jan 74 build 1.8 and the reinforcement panel does not have the compound curve in it like the 73 (left side image) - mine matches the 74 one in right side image. discount my previous thought re charcoal can. the 74 in image above is pre nov 73 build. but are they doing something with hood reinforcement panel rod clearance modification? |

George,
I think the real question is how are you able to have a shop with such nice tile floors? I would think they would be easy to crack or the grout get stained. |
